Danny Baker:is there a place for racist comments in public?
Mississippi Bullfrog replied to Valko's topic in General Chat
Postcard? You seen a postcard on sale recently? Is someone having a pop at older folks here? I'm outraged. But to answer the original question...no. -
The snag is that without a system of checks and balances holding public officers to account that kind of strategy ends up with a society policed by the Spanish Inquisition. Which not everyone remembers with the greatest affection. There are plenty of examples of systems where those who enforce the law have not be subject to sufficient scrutiny and I can't think of a single case where that has ended well. What needs to happen is for the process to be properly resourced so it can be dealt with swiftly and the exonerated officer returned to duty without an extended period of anxiety. What also needs to happen, in my humble opinion, is for society to give ourselves a huge kick up the arse and start taking responsibility for our actions. But that won't happen in the realm of public administration of justice until it has become the mindset of the electorate, and there's no sign of that happening anytime soon. Incidentally, we do have the death penalty for speeding, it's just that it's usually applied to persons other that the one who felt it was their right to drive at whatever speed they chose to. In which case the consequence of that decision is largely ignored.

Indeed not - unlike Jehu son of Nimshi who 'driveth furiously'- King James Version. (Which I guess is where the wording of the 1847 Act forbidding 'cycling furiously' comes from.)

I took a break for a few years a while back. As they say, it's like riding a bike. It comes back very quickly. No harm doing a refresher session though. Good way to debug any bad habits and get your reflexes back on line.

I suppose the guy I referred to above got their attention because he always targeted single female drivers and was known to sometimes then follow them. Mind he lived at home with mummy and daddy and his mother was diabolical driver.

Much as I tend to agree with the above if a motorist has used their vehicle in an aggressive or threatening manner there's nothing to lose reporting it to the police. To be fair unless you've got some form of evidence or witnesses there's little they can do. But if they receive multiple complaints about the same person it can affect future decisions. We had a prat who lived down our road and the police were aware of his antics. It was not entirely by coincidence they happened to be in the vicinity of his favourite bullying spot one day and he got done for it. A lot of police work is building up a picture of what is going on so you might not get an instant "Go to jail, do not collect £200" but you might contribute to getting said pillock off the road somewhere down the line.

Mutt Mongrel- New Batt needed. Help!
Mississippi Bullfrog replied to julesp07's topic in Motorbike Chat
I'm guessing it's the battery that 9 months old rather than the bike. It depends on the history and quality of the battery if it's salvageable. If left to totally discharge they don't survive very well but a lot of batteries come with a warranty so worth checking. There are loads of batteries out there - but don't buy cheap. It's false economy. In terms of chargers - again there are many so I can only tell you what I use. I have a couple of CTEK charger, they do a motorcycle specific one which is fine - XS 0.8. I use that one on the Bobber. The other one I have is more powerful but has a bike setting. I fitted the additional leads with LED indicators that show the battery charge so you can see at a glance what state the battery is in. Personally I leave them connected whenever the bikes aren't in use every day. So the Bobber tends to be left connected all the time. The Honda I connect if I'm away for a couple of days as it has an alarm which tends to drain the battery a bit. Generally if you're not riding the bike an overnight charge once a fortnight ought to be more than sufficient. -
Generic trigger sm50 LED indicators not working
Mississippi Bullfrog replied to Justinat735's topic in Pitstop
You've probably checked this but just in case.....LEDs are polarity sensitive. The last ones I fitted I set up using the multimeter to identify current flow but then they wouldn't work with the ignition on. Turned out current flowed in the opposite direction due to a switched earth when the ignition was on. D'oh! -
The only thing I've found with dash cams is that they don't seem to last very long. My last one just died so it's glued to the underside of my top box. Doesn't record anything but it might persuade a few tailgaters to back off. Next one I buy will be a cheapo one as it doesn't seem to matter what you spend in terms of their lifespan.

Any suggestions for a decent/not outrageously expensive one? Had a look but tbh no idea what I'm looking at, didn't even know you could steam a bike lol Buy a cheap steam wallpaper stripper. The steam generator on one of those does the job fine. You can get them for around £25. Some come with a steam lance or just use the end of the pipe. Wear thick gloves as it will be scalding! -
Bit late into this but I use CTEK chargers with a lead that has led indicators of the battery charge which stay connected to the bike. It means you always know the state of the battery at a glance.

Rear ended 21 hours after new bike
Mississippi Bullfrog replied to skiersteve's topic in Motorbike Chat
Older drivers get hammered on premiums so she may have just wanted to keep the insurance out of it for good reasons. But then she seems to be one of the few decent honest people around who take responsibility for making a mistake and want to put it right. Still a bummer when it's a new bike. Hope you get it all sorted. -

Steam it? That usually breaks down well hardened crud. I use a steam generator for my beehive cleaner, same thing as a wallpaper steamer. -
Tbh, I really wouldn't mind this as the AMGs sound beautiful. Not when they lose it on a bend and hit a tree sideways they don’t. Not a lot left afterwards. Still, better to hit the tree on the left side of the road than the primary school on the opposite side. That guy really was a nob.

[email protected] There was a guy selling them a while back, his email is above. Just found that looking for the Motrax unit online.
-
Oooh I cant seem to locate it on the website, do you have a link please? Hmm...just checked and as of now it says they are discontinued. They were made by Motrax if that's any use searching for one. Can't copy the link on my phone though.

Very true. It inhibited growth on the underside. However that also made the punishment of keelhauling less effective.

One wonder why the Royal Navy used copper to coat the bottom of wooden sailing ships in copper if it is prone to salt water corrosion? They did it to prevent worms burrowing into the hull of course. But several of my older boats had copper hull parts to protect vulnerable edges of the hull. Hence the phrase....copper bottomed....meaning of good quality. Of course, back then their choice of metal soft enough to make into sheets that could be shaped to a hull were somewhat limited so I guess copper lasted long enough to outlive the wood of the hull.

I always carry a pair of good quality washing up gloves for those times when it's chillier than expected. If I get caught out in summer gloves and get cold hands I put the washing up gloves under my leathers. Well insulated and if it wet will keep your hands dry. It's a trick I learnt years ago and it's bailed me out on a few sunny but cold days.

This is an old 54 plate. 120 000 miles and not looked after at all. She's had it about five years and has not done a single service or repair on it since we separated ... nearly four year now! Hence if I can squeeze it through the MOT for her I can forget it for another year and it'll cost me less. I am being somewhat selfish here but she doesn't look after them. She ran it on low oil, red light on for a couple of days because couldn't be bothered to put oil in. More than once too! Those engines won't tolerate poor servicing - particularly running with old oil. By the sounds of it she's destroyed it.

I hate it when I do something like that. Firstly because I did it and secondly because it really annoys me when I know that in the bigger order of things it's not the worst problem in the world but it still makes me mad with myself. It is why I hate buying new cars. I'm happier driving a wreck.

You can always blank the EGR on them. The issue with intercooler trunking I had was that it collapsed before the turbo could come onto load so that prevented the trunking from being pressured in the first place so no boost was developing. It was sorted under warranty so I never got too hands on with it but the report I got said it was the internal structure coming adrift.
