  1. I did want to ask, am I going to have problems if I ride it whilst it's on auto choke?

No. just start the engine and ride away. warming up is a thing of the past for you now... totally unnecessary. in fact.. the quicker you ride away the sooner the bike hits its ideal temperature and fuel consumption becomes 'normal'... and if the bike has a CAT.. it starts to work as it should,

  2. Thats a good price.. me, i prefer to use the Channel Tunnel for various reasons.. but it has to be said its double that price. Ive recently booked a return at £79 that for a long week.. crossing on the Saturday morning and returning the Sunday of the following weekend. so 9 days.

There are perhaps 8 of us going to Austria later in the year.. at the end of the summer.

  3. who exactly are you aiming this business at?

reason i ask is as you are based in Bavaria.. and seem to be specialising in the Alps.. then you are really aiming at experienced travellers because there is the small matter of 'getting there and back' organising all that even before the 'tour' starts properly.

as an example.. someone travelling from Chester to a start point.. eg Fussen. thats a 900+ ride and needs some careful planning.. how to cross to the European mainland.. which ports to use. accommodation en route. 900 miles? thats a 2 day trip at least.

Would someone who has never travelled by bike before be up to that? possibly travelling alone? Im not so sure.

Bike tour operators who offer a similar 'for profit' service from the UK usually take care of everything.... asking only that their customers make their own way to a port.. or the tunnel and be there at a certain time. and then.. they sort everything else. this is what you pay for and what you should expect. No experience required.

  4. 29 degrees here and I have sunburn.

    (Dom rep) lol

    On my way [emoji106]

Leave your helmet at home. You won't need that ;)

And almost certainly render your travel insurance invalid in the process.

Dominican republic does have helmet laws.. not enforced and so ignored by the locals which makes the place the most dangerous country in the western hemisphere for motorcycle riders.

If you choose to ignore the local laws.. then be sure to read the small print in your insurance documents. see if the insurer has anything to say about that.

  5. If I remember rightly this problem was subject to a PUMA.. and so what that means is it was a recognised problem but to avoid a worldwide recall... they only fixed bikes that get the problem - because not all did.

it might be worthwhile contacting a dealership and asking if your bike has had the fix.. and if not, can anything be done. They will want your VIN number.. so have that handy when you call. it used to be the case that BMW would pay for fixes like this after the warranty had expired... because its a known issue. so its worth asking.

  6. Haha, that looks a bit over the top for what I need! Bit less Norwegian Fisherman Chic!

Unfortunately that was the only photo they had of the suit fully opened. I did say it was one of their more garish colours. not something I would choose.

i would probably go for the old favourite.

To be fair.. the price of the suit isnt bad when you compare it with Rukka.. my jacket cost more than that suit.

  7. Ive only once seen something like you describe.. the pants open in a similar way to this suit.. with a full length zip.. running up the inside of both legs.

so.. you can literally step out of them with zero struggle.

only downside is its made in the USA and not cheap. add on shipping and possible duties.

I cant find a photo of the pants opened.. but heres a suit in one of their more garish colourways.

pants cost about £560 + shipping/duty. The suit as shown.. about £800+

Ive yet to see a European equivalent... a proper suit or trousers that is fully office friendly and good for general biking too. fully armoured and waterproof.. warm for winter.

  8. I wonder what Martin Clunes thinks about Chinese bikes? Does he have an opinion? Does he listen to Black Sabbath? Did he ever recover from being trapped in a lift at the BBC with the three degrees and rod hull for 2 (glorious) hours?

Does he care that Dalwhinnie is currently discounted by 38% at Tesco? (A not insignificant saving)

Or that a Honda dealership in Nottingham has brand new Varadero 125s for sale. (All 3 colours)

  9. The rally at the ring is a modern invention... and 'luxurious' compared to the 'proper' elefant rally which is a lot further from calais..

650 miles or thereabouts on the far side of Germany and truly in the middle of nowhere close to the Czech border.. theres some confusion in that thread.. as someone has put a video of the Bavarian elefant.. on a thread about the Eifel elefant.

    They couldn't be more different.

as for going... I might consider it if I have an outfit. (but I do not.) and I'm not really enough of a masochist.

  10. Seeing the topic and original poster, I had the odds of this being about biker leathers at 1:10.

Textiles for me at the moment, but I have some jeans and will be getting a darker jacket, possibly leather, for shorter trips or when I don't want to get changed at the other end. Current outfit was picked for visibility and waterproofness when commuting, but I've had a few comments along the lines of "should be on an adventure bike"...

you can laugh at them in the summer.. when your light coloured suit keeps you cooler in the sun than the more usual black. 8-)

i have no Bike Leathers at all.. mainly due to practicality, for my purposes leathers are not a practical option.

  11. I have braces, they're alright and I stick a hoody/ jumper over the top of them if I'm going somewhere and don't want to look daft :D

It's only daft if your trousers come up as far as your nipples. You wear a flat cap... Use black pudding as an offensive weapon and say ee by gum a lot. Wearing a hoody will cancel any or all of these.

    Smart choice :thumb:

  12. with some textiles.. the straps are there to hold them up.. they can be fairly heavy with armour and such, more for walking about than actual riding I reckon. Ive never bothered zipping parts together even when the upper and lower could be zipped together cause they matched. too inconvenient for my taste. You might be more comfortable zipping together a short style jacket.. to low cut jeans.. for example to stop draughts.. but most gear overlaps so this shouldn't be an issue.

  13. I would suggest you set up a search on eBay for the standard seat.. and be patient. then sell your low seat in the same way, your low seat is going to be worth more second hand.

you can probably buy gel type pads that attach to the seat.. but Im not sure if they would work well, and Im definitely not sure about the looks.

the tank is a very odd shape:

On my 800.. the fuel gauge only provides a rough idea of fuel until its half full.. then as the fuel level drops it becomes more accurate. I have arrived at a petrol station with 5 miles left. Thats as close as Ive gone without carrying fuel for a 'run it dry' test.

  14. I used to get around 10 to 15k when I owned a chain bike

I never got to a point where I NEEDED to replace the chain but I replaced for preventative maintenance rather then wait for things to go tits up

I have had a chain suffer stiff links before and using a chain tool to loosen the link worked well

A mate of mine used to get around 25k out of his before he would change it but he ran a scottoiler and was anal about cleaning it! like after every ride

Makes me glad to have discovered Belt drive... 30,000 +/- and zero maintenance aside from the weekly damage check. I think it's a great shame that the orientals have essentially ignored this option for final drive... Especially in recent years.
