My flasher relay on my yamaha sr 125 has packed it in. Went into halfords and the local motorstore but with no joy. Tons of 21w relays, but no 4w relays. Is there an alternative i can use? the spec for mine, i beleive its 10w x 2 + 1.7w.

Magic, maybe give that a wee try, Got one of the woman i work with hubbys whos a mechanic gonna have a look at it when hes home, works abroad
-
Thats for that bill. I might try and get an eclaip or something around it. On the cold mornings it needs choke for a couple of minutes
-
bump, any other suggestions?
-
Good idea tim, Never thought of that! It is a wee spring loaded peg. I think there must be a wee clip inside it that catches but its a sealed unit
-
The choke on my sr125 wont stay out, Is there a kit that can be bought to repair it, or is there a way to fix it? apparently its a known fault but i cant find anything about it
-
Good stuff. I was concerned mayebe the carb was on the way out or even worse Book / factory settings for carbs are often inaccurate once the engines old and things are dirtied up and not the same shape ect.

Well, After a lot of kicking tyres and moaning, I carried out more work on the bike, mainly cleaning parts etc, again i drained the fuel tank! This time, i remembered to put it onto reserve as opposed to just the fuel line. Fresh fuel and voila, like magic! Rode it home, bloody battery died again! Turned out my earth connection to the chassis should have been to the engine! so hopefully it will still be charged when i take it home after work tonight. Only problem i have left now is that. The book says idle screw, 1 1/4 turns out, mine is about a quarter of a turn out, if i bring it out anymore the engine labours way too much until it eventually cuts out, i also need to hold the choke out for about 3-5 mins before i can let it in or else the bike cuts out. Any suggestions?

The thing is, I got it cheap, it was just the bits that have added up. and it is a nice wee bike, i'ev put alot of work into it. Wish there was some magic wee answer that could resolve it!

Right, Story goes like this. I have been doing some work on a yamaha sr125 which has been sitting for a year. Finally got it (almost) up and running. Had it out a scoot last week and it was fine. i turned it off, 15mins later i went to go again, Made it about a mile and it started chugging then just died. re-started it. Made it about 50m, same again. This time i had to bump start it. Made it another 50m and it was a goner. so pushed it the mile home (yes it hurt) I put a new battery in it as i thought that was the problem. but no. I have stripped, cleaned and made sure the carb settings are all correct. Whenever i open up the throttle it will give a rev then nothing. Engine still ticks, i have to come off the throttle to do it again. When i go to move, it will do the same, Will build up speed to about 10mph, then theres no power, and it will chug again until it cuts out. This is my first bike and i have spent a fortune on parts, Im pretty downhearted by it. Can anyone suggest anything?

Yup sure have. I have replaced the fuel, now got a full fresh tank, cleaned the carb, oil and filter and spark plug aswell

Right, had a wee problem with my bike, its an sr 125 been lying for a year. I have done a full service, stripped and cleaned the carb too. So put it all back together and it starts with a full charge from the battery, however after a few minutes, it starts spluttering and the idle drops until it eventually cuts out. If i rev it, it splutters aswell. I have put the fuel, air idle etc at the correct position. When it does die, and i try to restart it, i get the ancient doorbell sound from the solenoid clicking, Check, the battery and it has dropped. I have checked the charging circuit and its producing a healthy 14v plus, but the battery doesnt seem to be retaining it. So, any suggestions? I'm guessing, new battery. but surely that wouldnt cause the rough running would it?
-
Right, Ive been down and checked it all. Everything is torqued correctly. Piston is in as far as it will go. However, the pads are still binding on, making it quite tough to spin the front wheel. I removed the upper shim, and it was fine! obviously this serves a purpose tho so i popped it back in. I know have the further problem of, the Bleed nipple has sheered off! luckily, (or not) it has done it in such a way that the plug is still intact, however i think it will be a tough job to remove it! Anyone know what size it is, and also a way of going about removing it?

yeah thats a plan. Done it in a bit of a rush prior to starting nightshift last week. So i'll try that tomorrow. Had nothing but trouble, but what can i expect when i pay buttons for a bike that needs work. Still worked out cheaper than buying a spot on one tho. And will do its purpose of a learner bike for me
-
thats fine, knew what you meant anyway. I was just thinking there tho. took the bike for an mot with the old pads on and it was fine. When i put the new ones on, they were a bitch to slot over the disc. Didnt change anything else
-
Magic. Need to remember that for the future
-
I'll check them tomorrow when im back down at the garage. Cheers for the help

I tried the evo-stick stuff, It came in the tube that you use with a pump gun. Did you use something else? - This stuff http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165691

Bit of advice. Dont waste your money on the liquid metal that comes in a tube. Drys like rubber. Wouldnt hold its own weight. Ended up removing the engine, and getting a couple of bolts in. Its holding, not the tidiest job in the world, but will do for just now! When i removed the engine i removed the generator/alternator case, turns out i didnt need to. but i bust the gasket on it, so waiting on a new one to come through, wanted it today but still not arrived. Apart from touching up some wee rusty bits thats about it. Hopefully, fingers crossed i can play on it soon. Got it mot'd and taxed last week, so its just down to me now

I've just replaced the front brake pads on my yamaha sr125. Since replacing them the front wheel is pretty tight, eg it won't just spin. Have to put a fair bit of effort in. Is this normal? or should it loosen off? The caliper was pushed right back so i know that aint the problem
-
cheers for the input guys. I'll strip it down tomorrow and give it a good clean, re-set the fuel level etc
-
That was my idea aswell. i think i'll take it off tomorrow and try to set it again. only problem is that i dont have a fuel gauge but im sure i could wing it
-
Well, finally got the old bike up and running, Had to replace the rear wheel bearings and remove the engine to retap the exhaust bolt holes. All is now going well, apart from a fuel leak! I'll run through the set up. The carb has a clear/brown pipe and also a black pipe which just hang down. The black pipe appears to come from the very bottom of the carb. This is the one that appears to be leaking fuel. It doesnt appear to be a huge amount but is noticeable and the garage is now stinking of fuel. I was thinking the fuel level is maybe set slightly too high. but i am just new too bikes so aint 100% sure. Oh the leak was there before i removed the engine too. Anyone any ideas?

Didnt get my CBT

The give insurance, but it states that if you bust parts you pay, If its a complete write off then it costs £500 excess! so can be fairly expensive. The car park im talking about is way out in the middle of nowhere, about a mile from any houses, and closed off, can still get a bike through though. A few people use it, checked and it isnt classed as a public place so all ok there. I think one of my problems aswell was that i was getting so peeved off at myself that i wasnt concentrating properly. Anyway. As they say, if you fall off the horse get right back on, so thats what i'm gonna do. I've got a wee bike that i need to work my was towards. The guy at the test centre say they've got roughly a 60% pass rate, eg if they put 10 students through a weekend, only 6 get out on the road. Unfortunately its the only one nearish to me and its 20miles away -
Gutted, was all prepared today, up at 730am to do my 20mile trip to the test centre. Got all kitted up for 9am. First problem, boots were a bit on the big side. Then after class was time to go out on the off road practice area. By this time i found out, i was the only person that has never ridden a motorbike. GOt off to a pretty bad start! kept stalling the bike, then when i did get it going, my hands done something they should and it fell on its side (costing me 50 quid for parts!) Anyways, I kept persevering, although it was clear i was the slowest in the group. Dinner time came and i didnt have the confidence to go out on the road, the instructor thought it might be better i got a bit more practice, So called it a day at that. Aint giving in though, going again next wed, and my wee bike is going to be road legal tomorrow, so got friends who have offered to ride it to an old disused car park so i can practice. Heres hoping
