  1. Ta. I seen one with a caliper and hose for £30 so i might get that I've tied up the handle and will leave it overnight as someone advised me to do that over on diversion club. Failing that, I'll be getting a new one...
  2. yeah i've checked the nipple etc. all seems fine at that side. looks like ill just try get a second hand one instead of paying nearly 40 quid for a rebuild kit!
  3. have you adjusted the air/fuel mix? sounds like it might be getting a bit too much of something
  4. As you all know im currently rebuilding/refurbing a 93 xj600. I balanced the carbs today and it sounds awesome! (although its a pain to get into the sync screws) Made my way to the front and tried flushing the old brake fluid through, pressing the lever it came all the way to the grip. adjusted it, still the same. undone the hose etc when i press the handle very little (eg a drip) came out i cleaned the reservoir as it was disgusting. If i hold my finger over the outlet valve i can feel pressure building up, I let my finger off and a small spurt of fluid comes out (thinking thats ok) all back together. try bleeding it. nope it wont push anything through the bleed nipple. im assuming the master cylinder has maybe gone and isnt proving enough pressure, would that be right?
  5. Now i think of it, it probably is a pretty bad idea. I remember it pinching my toes quite bad when it happened. New bots it is then
  6. Ideal. I had a similar problem earlier in the week, but it was because the plug wasnt sitting properly
  7. It sounds as though its flooding for some reason. Only thing i can think of is take out the plugs and leave them for a few hours. Pop them back in and see if it makes a difference
  8. Had an off last year and in the process managed to dent the toecap in my boot, im assuming its steel. They are fine apart from that, Does anyone know if there's a way it can be reformed?
  9. Don't want to insult you, but i take it you've checked to make sure all pipes/screws etc are on tight? Was it an uprated filter eg k and n etc? Did you knock anything on the carbs when changing it?
  10. Well done buddy. Keep it safe
  11. Its just the size for buying. eg. M7 x 1, M8 x 1.25 etc
  12. I've not tried it with it on the ground to be honest. (havent had it on the move yet) I touched it with my foot and it did stop. I'll get it down and give it a try when i get a chance
  13. I definitely seen something on this before but can't find it now. Long and short. In neutral, clutch out theres a rattle (known fault) clutch in, its fine. Kick it into first, Clutch out its pretty much fine, running a bit rough but thats because im working my way through sorting it. Clutch pulled in, the wheel still keeps spinning, not as in just a little bit, its as though theres still power going to it. Is this going to be the clutch release bearing? or something else Its a 93 plate XJ 600 diversion s

  15. Wondering if anyone knows the bleed nipple sizes for both front and rear on a xj 600 Diversion s. 93 plate, single caliper at the front
  16. It sounds like you just need to open the throttle a little bit more. I don't want to insult you as i'm sure you are an experienced rider, But sometimes our minds tell us we're doing things we aren't. One of the things you have to do is just roll the throttle on slightly. I could go on in length but what you want to do is go into the corner at a speed, maintain it around the corner, and exit at the same speed. It will make things much smoother, But you will only master this with practice. Go into a corner you do regularly at 15-20mph less than normal, then just open up the throttle slightly. Only enough to maintain speed and not stand the bike up. HTH
  17. The back drum brake is sticking, i can put money on it. Make sure its adjusted properly. I'd suggest stripping it down and giving it a clean, not a hard job. And make sure it's adjusted properly when you put it back together
  18. ps. say hi in newbies. you'll get to know people quicker
  19. try releasing the clutch slightly, just til it begins to bite. or give the throttle a little blip when applying pressure
  20. When overtaking, use of the horn and long headlight flash is ALWAYS an option open but it is merely to inform other drivers of your presence, not give you a right of way as per the highway code. I use a headlight flash regularly. Maybe about 1-2secs in length, It's the way i was taught and i'm an emergency vehicle driver
  21. Thanks, I'll need to leave it a few days because i'm heading back up to mine (bike is at the in laws) and the mrs feels slightly neglected. Silly question, But would the down pipe from the cylinder that isnt firing, be colder?
  22. Thanks for the replies folks. Got up this morning, took out the plugs and checked for sparks, all good, Primed the fuel system and made sure the pump was working (diaphragm type), then popped it back together, Caught after 3 tries and it fired up on 1, 2, 3 etc. But it sounds a bit rough, similar to a v-twin. Wondering if its maybe not running on all cylinders yet. Idle is slightly eratic. Could prob do with a carb balance etc. and its got the clutch rattle so i'll get that sorted out too. Apart from that its just going to be wee odd jobs to get it back to strength
  23. will do. might try get a hold of a starter pack then, just to give myself a bit extra power incase maybe the battery isnt quite cutting it anymore
  24. sounds like a plan. I've taken the four plugs out tonight, oddly i could only smell petrol from one of them, it had been a few hours since i tried turning the engine over though. I'll get fresh fuel and carb cleaner tomorrow see if that makes a difference. Dont know how much punishment the battery can take tho. Might need to hook it up to the car
  25. I've removed the carbs and sprayed carb cleaner in through the main inlet which comes from the pump, It's spraying out of each inlet to the carb bowl. Had a look at each jet too and they look ok, can't see anything obvious blocking them. Got the battery back on charge just now as it has died for about the third time after trying repeatedly to start the engine
