1. Take a look at these delightful youngsters on bicycles in a supermarket in Brighton. No doubt in a year or two they will upgrade to mopeds and bolt cutters. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-1981966/Gand-bike-thugs-terrorise-customers-rampage-Asda.html
2. My experience of their customer service has been excellent having purchased lots of different items. The only issue i had was that the controller on my Oxford heated grips failed a few months in to the 12 month warranty. Their policy is to send a free sticker to place on an envelope for faulty items to be returned and replacements sent once received. I explained that my fuel tank would need to be removed as i had wired up neatly underneath and they very kindly sent me the replacement item with a free return label so that i could remove the old unit and replace the new one in one go without having to remove the tank twice. I have also found their prices very reasonable and delivery quick. It is unfortunate that you have had a bad experience with items bought from them but i am sure they will have done everything they can to resolve your issue.
3. I use earplugs. I find I get a head ache after a while particularly when on the motorway. I've tried loads. I find the musician one's best. I got these recently off Amazon. I can still hear the engine and sirens etc but it takes the edge off. They are comfy and have a silicon strap so the go around your neck without dropping them 3 Pairs Filters Concert Ear plugs, Hearprotek Noise Cancelling High Fidelity Earplugs-Hearing Protection for Musicians, Live Music, Drummer, Percussion, DJ & Clubbing https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07GSZ5TZF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_1KoiDbZYR5FBB
4. The day I picked up my Honda CB600FB a week after passing my DAS was amazing. After 8 months commuting on a YBR125 the Hornet felt like a rocket ship. The transition to first big bike is massive. When you think about it a 600cc generally has around 10 times more power than a 125. It took me a good while to get used to the power and also how best to make use of revs and gear changes. Enjoy the new bike!
5. Went to try and fit my new H4 led bulb and noticed a screw in tyre. So for the second time in 3 weeks had to take the rear tyre off and take to SMD in Leigh (Wigan) to get it repaired. £14 so not too bad. Pain in the arse but this time, luckily, the screw didn't fly out at 70mph+ on the motorway requiring recovery.
6. I was watching one of his videos on a VFR last night. Very good. Would love a 2018 VFR 800 in Red. - If you squint it looks a bit like a Panagale
7. Evening, I currently have a 2011 CB600F Hornet. I commute over 200 miles a week. I am looking at possibly getting something slightly torquier with a bit of wind protection and do like the look of the VFR800. I anticipate that filtering in Manchester City Centre won't be as easy on a VFR and that I won't get as good MPG but I wondered if any of you have had one and can give any advice?
8. I had a YBR125 for 9 months after doing my CBT and loved it. I have a Hornet now but there are times when i do miss "ruby" - as my daughter named her due to the colour - particularly when filtering through miles of traffic.
9. the shop cant get the bridgestone, they've recommended the pilots, I'm just not sure which ones to go for, the power 1, power 2ct or road 5. I have just gone from Bridgestone to Road 5s. The road 5 are superb tyres with so much more grip. Very inspiring in this weather
10. yup - Plonker of the day goes to me. Hope the new seal stops my stuff getting wet now
11. All sorted. Turns out the old gasket was tucked up in the recess. GIVI customer service were superb emailing me with the following:- Good afternoon I have performed a replacement test on one of our E460 Demo Boxes, please see below the steps I undertook in replacing the Seal: Firstly I would advise unscrewing one end on both Yarns so the Box sits Flat. Next using a small Flat Screwdriver remove the old Seal. Then when fitting the new Seal I would advise using a ruler to gently compress the Seal into place, as it is elastic you will need to stretch the Seal in order to fit evenly around the Box. Finally close and Lock the Lid to ensure working operation. I hope my steps help, however if you require any further assistance please let me know. Kind regards Steven Fletcher GIVI UK
12. that is very kind, thank you. I have a new seal from Givi. I am just struggling to fit properly that's all. I hope it's just the box and not the bike that's smashed!
13. JRH Mississippi Bullfrog - Thanks both for your replies. Does the seal go all the way around the recess and meet in the middle? I will try a bit of washing up solution and force in the gap as far as i can.
14. I have a GIVI top box which came with my bike secondhand which is leaking. After a bit of research it looks like i am missing a weather seal. I ordered a replacement %5B/img%5D
15. Thanks for the tip. I rubbed a bit of Renapur that I use on my leathers into the leather parts of the gloves. It's softened them up and they are nice and grippy now
16. I'm sure I will bed them in soon. I just wondered if there was some kind of trick that may help.
17. I have a nice new pair of IXS Goretex gloves which are comfy, warm and keep my paws dry. The fingers are a bit slippery. In fact I stalled as the clutch slipped out of my hand. I obviously need to get used to them but can anyone advise a way to make them lesss slippy? https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/buy/ixs-arctic-blaze-gloves-black/17702?fbclid=IwAR1_ebEiKUrmfCZNTOdhcaPSDyFP29oJ95ShOjta7iAgPKRt5K5w5boZ3j8
18. Congratulations! I went to pieces on my First Mod one and failed stalling on the slalom which is the first thing you do on the bike! 2nd time a was more calm and passed. It is a great feeling. I did my Mod 2 a few weeks later and passed with a couple of minors. stalling at lights and "failing to make progress" - I thought the 40mph I was in was a 30MPH ! - Only time in my life i think i have ever been criticised for for being too slow...
19. I thought exactly the same as you about being weedy on motorways. Previously a slight turn of head would feel like having my head wrenched. Now, I have to keep a bit of an eye on the speedo; previously anything over. 70mph was very uncomfortable
20. True - My Spada's Airoh was cheap and bad fitting. I love my new one
21. Just a small update. My Shoei arrived yesterday. It is a very nice piece of kit and the quality of the materials is so much better than my previous helmets. I spent a while fitting the pinlock and working out how the visorlock system works. This is excellent. it has 3 settings. unlock (like any helmet), lock - locks the visor in place and gap thingy, raises the visor up by a few millimetres to allow a small flow of air - great for me as i wear glasses and it really helps to keep them clear on a damp morning like today. I struggled a little at first with the double D Fastener but i am now a firm believer that all things in life are better as Double D..... - On a serious note, it felt more comfortable than the ratchet system on my old helmets. I found a bit of an issue when tucking down with my previous helmet where there was a gap between the edge of the pinlock and the top of the visor and this caused a slightly obscured view but this is not a problem with the Shoei. Also, the range of vision is excellent. So, in summary, whilst i realise that you cannot put a price on safety, £250 is a lot for me to spend given my old helmet was only £75 and that it was only 6 months old but after my visor pop-up incident and mini choky experience it had to go. The helmet fits perfectly on my on my slightly odd shaped head, has great ventilation, great vision, comes with a Pinlock included, has a 5 Star SHARP safety rating and feels very good quality. Given this I actually think the £250 price is very good and I think I will remain loyal to this quality brand. If the Shoei fits.........................
22. I will have had my hornet 3 weeks on Saturday and done nearly 600 miles on it - It is so much better than my little 125. Good luck with the Mod 1 - Try and relax and only set off for each little test part when you feel ready to. There is no need to rush. Fingers crossed for you!
23. It is a Shoei Qwest. I'm told the model is being discontinued hence £250 which is a good price for a Shoei but it is infinitely better than my current one. My last 2 helmets have been front flip so this will be my first full face. I think I will miss the ability to pop up the front at petrol stations
24. Since getting my big big bike and being able to ride on the motorway I have found my £75 Airoh Mira flip front Helmet to be very lacking. It leaks water, it is very noisy, it seems to catch the wind badly (I assume down to poor aerodynamics), the position of the visor / pinlock means that when tucking down an annoying line appears where the pinlock meets the visor, over bumps the sun visor sometimes pops down, and the ratchet lock thing is very uncomfortable at speed. Today was the ultimate though. After a quick lifesaver changing lanes in the m61 the wind caught under flip front, which I thought was locked in place. This obscured my vision whilst travelling 70mph (cough cough) and choke me a bit. I ended up having to pull over to sort it out. So, I have bitten the bullet and ordered the Shoei full face helmet I tried on last week at J and S accessories. Had to stretch the old piggy bank but it felt so comfy and "right" that I hope. Its money well. Spent. I only had the Airoh one 6 months but you get what you pay for I guess
