Evening all, Haven't posted for a while but picked up a new 2023 XSR900 today. Any other XSR900 owners here with any tips or advice? I m looking for a tail tidy in particular. Did 80 miles today towards the 600 mile break in service. It is similar to my MT09 but more composed at speed, particularly on the motorway. Suspension seems a little better and the addition of cruise control is nice to have. I think it looks better than the MT09.

So, tomorrow morning I'll be picking up my new MT09. I cannot wait. Moving from a 10 year old Hornet 600 so I expect it to be much better in every way. I know some have critised the headlight of the new Mt09 but personally, I really like it. Pics to follow

I'll be honest, I didn't know you could leave a policy running like that after selling the bike.

They said the admin fee was £80 alone plus they hiked up the premium and the excess. It was a foreign call centre and the person on phone struggled with English, particularly when I tried to negotiate. Lesson learned. I'll not be renewing with them again

I've sorted my insurance today with MCE to change my Hornet 600 to a new 2021 MT09 that I'm picking up on Wednesday. There is only 4 months left on my policy. I paid in full last year, not monthly and the fee MCE want to cover my new bike to the end of the policy is nearly as much as I paid for 12 months. Yes, the MT is worth more and has a bigger engine but I've also got a tracker fitted to it. Robbing bast*rds.

Has anyone had their bikes ceramic coated? My new MT09 is matte black. I've not had a matte bike before and I gather you can't polish or wax it. I figured a full ceramic cost of the bike might be a good idea and help with cleaning. I've had a quote from a detailer of £150 to do the whole bike. They say it'll last 2-3 years. Thanks in advance

I've been offered a free tracker with my new MT09. It's a Datatool Stealth that'll be supplied and fitted free; I'll have to pay the £100 annual fee. Is it worth having? Do you get much of a discount on insurance with them? Thanks in advance.

So, after 3 years of having my 2011 CB600FB Hornet, I placed an order today for a new 2021 model MT09 in Black. Hopefully get on 16 April. I am very very excited.

@alex_from_JandS - One final point, I am told my Facebook account has been blocked by J&S. My mother-in-law tried to tag me into a response to her post about the voucher issue but is unable to as I have been blocked. A little disappointing really that you are unable to respond to constructive criticism online and simply delete a post and block the user.

I have found the support and advice received on this forum to be immensely helpful to me over the years and have only just found out it is possible to subscribe to help the forum operate so I have now just subscribed. It is only £2 a month, less than a cup of coffee. If you can afford to support this forum, I would urge you to do so. Dan

Alex, Thank you for taking the time to respond. I am very sympathetic to the difficulties retailers are facing but as a customer who has spent over £1000 over the years in store and online I did not understand why a photo of the voucher was not acceptable when it is simply a piece of paper with a unique code printed on it. However, I accept that you are looking into it but until the issue is resolved there are a lot of people who I think may be dissuaded from gift vouchers until their online use is available; particularly in these current uncertain times. SBS, for instance, have had the option to use vouchers online for years. I look forward to the stores reopening and being able to use my voucher. Regards Dan

Bit frustrating. I have a J&S gift voucher from my birthday. Seen an item i want and J&S will not allow me to purchase using the voucher. Said i have to go in store; which are all closed. Offered to send photo of voucher which is simply a receipt with a code on it but apparently that is not acceptable either. They offered for me to post the gift receipt in the post to head office for them to then process and add the balance to my online account. This means writing a letter, going to the post office and posting it by registered post as it's a 70 quid I wouldn't want it to get lost. Visiting post office to send a voucher to a shop to be able to bag a black Friday bargain is probably not classed as essential so probably, technically, in breech of some covid bylaw I get that they are keen to get punters in the doors of the stores but i would have thought they would be wanting to adapt their policies in the current climate. Usually get J&S vouchers for birthday and Christmas but think I'll be requesting Sportsbike Shop from now on as you can use online or in store.

Morning, I am having my head bearings replaced by a mechanic tomorrow on my 2011 Honda Hornet CB600FB. I've had the bike nearly 2 years. Front suspension seems absolutely fine with no leaks or anything but I've no idea how long since the fork oil was changed; if ever. Would it be sensible to get the mechanic to change the fork oil as a preventative measure whilst the forks are off? Not sure what they would charge to do that as well. I don't really want to spend more money unnecessarily but if it is a sensible preventative measure that will be cheaper whilst he has the front apart I may do it. Thanks

For chain maintenance, after trying various methods I now clean with parafin in a spray bottle using old rags until its clean and dry then use 80/90 gear oil lightly applied with a brush then wipe off the excess with a cloth. A bottle of parafin and gear oil will last years and is much cheaper than canned lube. It is fiddly but economical and its what the chain manufacturers recommend. I have used motul chain paste too which is good.

As others have said, ACF50 is a must for the winter and be prepared to strip your brakes and clean with a tooth brush and brake cleaner once in a while if you are riding all year round. Main thing is; enjoy it and if you are not sure or not confident how to do something ask. This forum is excellent.

I only do around 2500 miles a year in the car now as I commute on my bike all year round so I'm not to bothered with MPG in my car. I get around 45mpg on my Hornet which I'm happy with. When they are working properly there isn't much else I'd rather be driving for comfort than an XJ6; even if though it's 16 years old. It's not the fastest car out there but it's quick enough. If I want to go fast I can jump on the bike.

Mine isn't. Getting on a bit now - made in 2003 — but it is all aluminium XJ. Very comfortable family car with Air suspension although fuel consumption is a bit rubbish. I bet it's not as bad as the 24mpg that my 02 x-type does! I get about 28mpg. I drove to Dover for a last year from Wigan and got 36mpg which isn't bad. MPG not bad on the motorway but rubbish around town.
