the old prongy ones 🤭, that remind me of cheap xmas light fittings especially out door ones. gs two pins they can be refered too.

probably somewhere in web land that look like these:

     Fab!

Now I know what to look for while searching for female-female and male-male adapter versions of them!
    Thanks!

  3. What is the name of this power connector?
A few things have them, but sometimes varies which way round they have them (whether male or female on the device or power end) - and is there male-male / female-female adapters/extensions for them?
    Thanks

I wouldn’t use just a single bolt to secure your mount to. It’ll shake and bounce all over the place.

    *snip*

Ohhhh, noooo. No I wasn't going to mount on a single bolt.

The mount is actually pretty much exactly like the one you've linked from AliExpress, got mine from Amazon for £8.. Same thing.
It mounts at 4 points just like that one. The question is just really what are suitable bolts and if longer needed.

I've ordered some stainless steel bolts about 4 mm longer (roughly same as thickness of mount) so i'll see how well it fits with them.

My choice is for a RAM mount that replaces a headstock bolt (like this). But some people find it places the nav too low for them.

I looked at those, and also looked at one on a bike with a Nav, while sitting on it. It isn't very comfortable to have to look down so far.
Much prefer above the instrument cluster.

  5. Vague title, I know very sorry... anyway, i'm looking to mount a sat nav mount on my Tiger 800 (Gen 1 11/61 reg), i've found NOTHING

helping with how or what I need for this, anywhere. Not for my bike.

ANYHOW - I know mounting the mount isn't complicated, assuming I have the right mount - it APPEARS to be 'correct' , and mounts to two points

each side. One which has the screen mounted on (i've marked on the pic) and one which is infront of the instrument cluster. I haven't been to the bike

to get a good picture, but according to the bikepartstriumph site (images below) - that uses the below bolt.

Now, as i'm putting the mount there, i'm assuming i'd need longer bolts - so maybe 2-4 mm longer? I randomly looked for M6 x 18 on amazon

and came up with some. I know theres M6 x 20's etc - can I just use any of them or is there something specific kind I should be looking out for?

The fact triumphs own ones cost £2.22 or so isn't the issue, i'm not bothered about the cost.

I know this is a ridiculously newbie question, but I don't like the idea of just getting something that might not be right and bodging it up.
And i'm struggling to find any real info on my specific bike. Or parts that fit. Lots for newer Tigers, but Gen 1. Nothing. :(

    Thanks for any help!

  6. Did CBT 2019, redid CBT 2020.

Did some lessons/mod1+2 practice on a big bike.

    Did Mod1.

    Did Mod2.

    Passed 2021.

Cost... no idea really... £99 for each CBT. DAS(big bike lessons etc) + Tests about £400.. I think? Maybe a little less.
So £600 all in. Happy I passed first time. 🤣

    Car test was another matter.

I enjoyed my 2011 Tiger 800xc but found it a bit top heavy moving it around the garage and not easy to get on its centre stand! .. I'm happier with my V-Strom.

As the one you're looking at has done 33k miles be aware that the major service for the Tiger is every 12,000 miles .. It can be expensive!

I forgot about the being top heavy part... and it doesn't have a centre stand! Something that i'm hoping to fix, i'll try and find one for it.
Hmm, major service - i'm going to have to ask this dealer all these questions - All these are things that will cause a large outlay immediately after

buying it, which i'm not exactly wanting to do. May have to have a think about it if none of it has been done recently.

    Thanks for the info,

and to everyone, thanks :) Very much appreciated.

Nice. Triumph triples are gems for allround ridablitly.

if its got 33thou on the clock and the suspension hasn't been changed or serviced properly recently it will definitely be very tired.

fork oil change, shock oil and gas refresh (if possible) would be minimums.

I'll be sure to ask about those when talking to the dealer, hopefully they know and will be able to sort something. Possibly maybe a decrease in price if it is something that is going

to need to be done. Who knows.. I can dream I guess.

I had a Tiger 800, like yours a 2019 MY, but I didn't have it for long enough to know what to look out for on an older bike.

There are three models: XRx (the standard model) XRt (top end) and XCa (off road). Don't know which your's is, but probably not the XCa as I think they all had spoked wheels.

The engine on your bike is completely beautiful, but the beauty stays largely hidden until you reach higher revs. Keep it in a lower gear and it will reward you. 4th - 6th are for motorways and dual carriageways.

Good to see it has crash bars. The top box is a good idea too. Don't be tempted to get the Triumph panniers - they stick out so wide as to make filtering almost impossible. I had a pair, but did my best to avoid using them as much as possible.

I found the suspension was a bit too budget for my liking - the front didn't track well, and it was unpredictable when leant over. I had a new shock put on, and resprung forks and this fixed all the problems. But with suspension what doesn't work for one person is fine with another, so see how you get on. If you find you need to change things, there's not much adjustment you can do with just a spanner.

Enjoy the bike! And the sound - it has that great wail that can only come from a triple. :D

The Tiger i'm looking at is quite a few years older than your 2019 you had! It only had an 800 or 800XC, I think it is the basic 800.
But i'm sure it'll do me fine as a first big bike. I'll certainly see how it rides for me. I know I've seen somewhere that people say put a wider wheel on the front as it is thinner than the

    rear on the Tiger?

I do want some panniers. Any would do, 3rd party or Triumph ones. I'm not bothered about filtering just yet. I will be wanting the storage space soon, so i'll work something

    out.

    Thanks guys! :)

  9. So... FINALLY, i'll be getting a bike. And so FINALLY will be able to do the Challenge(2024), I hope!! WOO!

But before that... i've already contacted the garage and it is still there.

My absolute max budget was £4000 - and a lovely VN900 and Tiger 800 show up at the same time.

The VN900 is closer to me, it is in Durham. The Tiger is over in Penrith. I've decided to go head over heart and chosen the Tiger, as being

my first 'big' bike, and space being a premium, it would suit better for now. The VN900 is BIG. I'll move on to something like that when I can.

I'll not get to test ride, as i'll be getting it delivered, does anyone have experience with Tigers, could suggest what I should do, check over, etc

to it - It's a 61plate, 33000 miles on the clock. Costing me £4k. I THINK it is the road version, with the peak added on ? As I thought the 'offroad' version had the peak, and spoked wheels... But I don't know how else to tell, as I know they can all be changed. ;D

If anyone has any insight/experience or anything with that year Tiger 800 you'd like to share with me, would be great. 👌

Looking up insurance quotes as they have given me the full reg number.

     oh this is exciting..

Thanks in advance if anyone has info. :]

Then the bike wouldn't be insured for theft until he changed it over on Monday

I mean, she went to see it  today (according to original post) - why would theft be an issue if she is just picking up, and putting it somewhere safe (i'd assume) until insured..

If you like the bike you are going to see and you want to buy it what is the problem??? just leave a deposit on sunday and arrange a time next week to go back and do the deal. Job done no rush no pissing about taking out insurance and then cancelling it which no doubt will cost you money.

Might not be from a dealer. Wouldn't leave a deposit and pick up later with a private sale. Ever.

But as as you say, if it was a dealer - they would happily take deposits for it to then be picked up later. So there isn't an issue.

  11. I don't know the reliability of BMW 1200/850/850 GS's after a few years, but you can get them at your price point of £5000.
They're just older ones (most pre 2009ish). So I guess it depends how old you want to go, and if they're a good bike that far back.

If that is a bike you're really liking.

Also surely securing the bike will bring the insurance down?

In my experience recently, the biggest difference on quotes is simply, postcode and if garaged or not.
I'm still looking for a bike, and the main thing the changed the cost is postcode where I can keep it. And tested

various i've lived at over the years.
Up north (North East) garaged I was getting around £1200-£2500, not garaged around £1400-£3000
North West (Manchester/Salford areas), garaged £1000-£2000, not garaged around £1400-£2500
Down South around my parents,  garaged £190-300, not garaged £200-400.
This is 2 year held license, 0 no claims, leathers protection, and adding my 'security' (which I don't usually do, but tested) which is an approved disc lock and a big ass

chain they have on the list it made no difference to mine.

Size of bike made a tiny bit of difference but only for 125cc which were on the higher end of the scale.

    Good luck!
But don't bother saying you have the security. - As daveinlim says - The one time you forget to use it, something happens, they don't pay.
So don't say you have any.

  13. It is normal. Just get a good cover incase anything happens. It'll come down once you've ridden a year or so. Depending on where you live.

Example: I can get insured down south at my parents house fully comp annual payment for £300 (based on it being a 1250GS) - up here in the North East it is £2400. And that is in a garage.

What Fiddlesticks says works. 😉IF you don't intend to be riding a bike immediately. But go fullycomp not third party.

If I want to apply A2 license do I have to wait to keep A1 license for 2 years please? I am in my 30+ by the way? Thank you.

I believe you do have to wait 2 years after the A1 practical test to take another practical for the A2 if you were under 24 years old.

However, you can usually take the A2 when you reach 24 years old, but I am pretty sure you can just take the full A license test straight off.
Ask riding school you learnt with.

My bad I’ve done a1 need to take a2 but don’t want to pay £800+ for lessons

As said above ^  Just do the A category as it is the same as A1/2. But you can ride any bike.
And it isn't £800+ for lessons if you already ride/think you can do it without them. A single lesson around £25-50ish depending where,

how long they do it for etc.. also the £70 I would have thought would include bike hire if Mod1 (mine was £55 inc. bike hire for mod 1, £125 inc bike hire for mod2).

Why is it deceptive? Apart from the speed bit, some of the things  you do on a 125cc bike during your CBT and it’s easier to do the things on a bigger bike because you are more stable. For the slalom the cones are more than enough apart from each other, it is not difficult to do figures of 8 and again the space for the u-turn is more than enough. What’s the problem?

Slightly bored of this obvious trolling. And this just proves you're doing it. Not difficult to do figures of 8, u turn has enough space, slalom cones far enough apart and its all ezpz no problem.
    But you've never ridden.
I doubt i'm the only one to think that the u-turn space looks tiny when you're not used to doing u-turns and are new to riding. Hell, I touched the line on the test.

Please just take peoples advice and accept the ones that seem logical and make sense, and is how you want to ride. Once you actually start riding that is. You'll not know anything until you do.

  17. Definitely overthinking it. 👆
How many hours will vary between people due to experience and confidence.
Lots say Mod 1 is harder, and Mod 2 is a walk in the park.
I found Mod 1 easier, as it has more of a 'structure' that I could align myself with if you like.
I was bricking it on Mod 2 because that is essentially all down to me. In the end I did fine.
I had about three 1 hour sessions for Mod 1, spread over three weeks, and then the test.
With two 2 hour Mod 2 sessions, over two weeks, then the Mod 2 test.

  18. Echoing others, don't. It isn't worth it in the long run if anything goes bad. As it isn't like you could make your own 'contract' with them of your own

to cover yourself if anything bad did happen, and it is probably against the PCP/other contract you have yourself with the dealer.

My ex brother in law had a gixer on finance years ago.
He wanted to get rid of it but was far from mid term.
He sold it privately and rang his finance company for a settlement. Paid it and kept the balance. (Which wasn’t much)

It happens, and as long as you pay it off then no one is the wiser.

EDIT: He informed the guy that bought it that it was on finance and sorted it all out in front of him.

I did EXACTLY this. Bike on finance, private sale. They knew it was on finance and I was paying it off with what they

paid me. I made nothing as I sold it for exactly what I owed on the finance.

Yes you aren't /supposed/ to do it this way. However like others say, they don't care so long as they get their money.

And don't delay in paying it off.

  19. About right in NCL for me... Around £6-7 for the fish (most seem to use cod near me), £8.10+ for Fish and Chips (in a box). Also can vary quite a bit even

between shops that are on the same street.
