Ok so new rear tyre added to my shopping list as well as a new exhaust as I'm jealous of @SometimesSansEnginenew one

So back in August I bought myself a triumph tiger 800. The previous owner had been using it to commute from Guildford to Yeovil so it had quite square tyres. Thanks to lockdown and changing jobs I've hardly ridden. With the temperatures warming up I'm hoping to start riding some more.

My question is, is it possible to round the tyres off again with riding or should I look into getting a new tyre?  It still have loads of tread so I'm hoping it's just a case of riding more.

Oh! Yes please! My new tiger only came with a small rubber one but this would be amazing.

There will be always a relation between what you're riding and what type of gear you will need.

For smaller scooters 50/125cc that won't do more than 40/50 mph you won't be needing the same top notch gear you should have for the faster bikes able to go over 100mph.

At the end you have to consider how much you value your brain, legs, arms and most important how much you value your own life and spend accordingly.

I always tell newbies you cant stop yourself putting your hands out to save yourself as it is hard wired into you.

Therefore gloves are a no brainer, Just think of all the things you cant do if your hands are goosed.

Seems to concentrate the mind lol.

I'm constantly telling the kids I see riding around on scooters and 125ccs to at least put some gloves on as you'll always put your hands down no matter what speed you come off at. They just look at me like I'm a nutter because I am normally in my postie uniform

The motorcyclist attempting to overtake on a fairly tight bend with double whites. He was so far over he nearly headbutted me coming up the hill in the opposite direction. Thankfully I had moved over to the left of the lane to get a better view around the bend it certainty woke me up on the commute to work this morning.

Pension? What's one of them?

I don't think we'll ever get to retire the way things are going and I'm going to have to pray I get something of an inheritance as I've always had minimum wage or just above wages and only really started paying into a pension scheme 5 years ago when it became something you had to opt out of

I don't have a bike at the moment so.....

Washed Magpie84's bike (yes I was that bored and still in the bargaining stage of grief) and really tackled some of the built up road grime that the previous owner had let live on it in the hard to reach bits. Finally mastered getting the damn thing on and off its centre stand - once you've worked out the exact technique which works for that bike you're OK but it took a while.

 

This is why you need at least two bikes, if you sell or one is out of action you have another to ride

We did have two bikes, one just happens to be mine and I'm not going to stop him washing it

Nob of the day goes to the few GS riders on the way to work this morning. One was sitting on my arse so close I was scared to brake, even when I stopped at a set of lights his front wheel was 3 inches from my exhaust. The second almost took me out whilst filteting as I didn't appear to be going quick enough for him.

I thought these fecking L plates are meant to mean something. Really pissed me off.

That's what I used to do and still do if I'm on the bicycle they soon back off.

Well, the big benefit hopefully is that rather than having to clean and maintain two chains (myself and Magpie84's) I now only have to clean and maintain one

Oi! I did a fine job of cleaning my chain the other day and I've cleaned it a few times before that but don't think I'm daft enough to step in and take over when you've decided to clean my bike for me

I'm similar to you, always wanted to learn to ride but never got around to it, then my husband said he wanted to learn and I knew I could never be a pillion.

My cbt was about £90 I think with a local school, I bought my helmet, jacket, gloves and boots in advance (£130, £230, £40, £80) but that's just because I wasn't sure if the school would have stuff that would fit me. I then bought a 125 from a dealer (£1800) which was a good thing in the end as it needed loads of work which was covered by the warranty. I finally did my full licence after about 9 months of commuting on my 125. I took a few goes to get my mod 1 so that added up but third time was the charm and I found the mod 2 easy thankfully. I dare not think how much those tests cost but it was all worth it

Dropped it I lost balance while maneuvering under the car port. I couldn't lift it without help either

 

Oh no!, it’s so easy to do with a new bike, I hope it hasn’t done much damage and it’s an easy fix.

If it makes you feel any better I broke the mirror on my last bike before I’d even got it home from picking it up, we’ve all done stuff like this.

Just the hand guard and indicator glass so purely cosmetic thankfully.

No consolation but I dropped mine the very first time I put petrol in it. Also a couple of times since before I learned that if there's a slope / camber in the road and I'm putting a foot down it needs to be the uphill foot. Otherwise my short legs don't reach the ground before the bike reaches the angle of no return. The disadvantage of tall adventure bikes.

This was just a case of losing my balance, thankfully my legs are more than long enough for the bike (one of the few plus sides of being 6ft1). Hopefully it won't happen again I just need to learn to treat it differently to my hornet.

Ahahahaha no! But being a mum and that I often take a child with me the large top box was a selling point for me
