  1. a few weeks ago I was on the way to fill up when I ran out of fuel,( reserve light appears to not be working), on the A14. locked bike up and trudged into Kettering to get can and fuel, got back to bike, still fuming from running out put fuel in, got on, started her up, looked for gap in traffic and roared off, only I had not removed the disc lock. apart from a apart from a moment when I thought I had dropped out of gear the bike just took off like normal. it was only when I got home and went to secure bike for the night I realised I did not have my disc lock. went back to look for it, thinking I had forgot to put in my hatbox, only to find it in two pieces in the layby I had stopped in. I cannot work out how the hell I did not damage the front disc, brake or wheel, or not get thrown off
  2. I have a oxford disc lock and I have been having problems getting it off the disc. so I wish I had known about the fault
  3. In January 2017 I had my large bowel removed due to cancer, and I was told to not ride for at least 6 weeks after leaving hospital. I waited until I had the stitches removed, so at least the wound had settled then got back on the bike and went for a ride. it was a bit sore going along potholed roads but I managed it. I was also back at work in March 2017, which amazed my cancer team, as most people are out of action for about a year
  4. It's great reading these rebuild posts when it all works out and is a credit to the rebuilder. I have been rebuilding a 1988 cb125 twin, and every time I do something to it something else rears its ugly head. the last time I did anything to it I got it running and ticking away nicely, but had to switch engine off to get bike out of garage in preparation for a quick run up and down the alley to check clutch and gear operation under load. however, once outside the bike flatly refused to start!
  5. I'm not sure if the law has changed, but in 2012 I took my mod1&2 on a 1988 cb125 twin, with a bhp of 16.5 and the examiner had to check the regs to see if it was legal, and it was, because the power to weight ratio is within the regs, but this bike is capable of doing more than 80 mph. Bearing in mind I am a lot older than 17, and I assume the OP is, it can be ridden on CBT.
  6. when I had to take mod 1&2 due to a balls up by DVLA I hired a bike from the cbt school to take the test as I could not use my 250. In the car park of the test centre for mod 1 the examiner took one look at the bike and said "you cannot use this bike" when I asked why it turned out it was not taxed. left bike there, called school and told them they would have to collect it then had to arrange a lift home. Second attempt bike was FOC due to first time, and this time it was a wet day. Started well on test until it came to the swerve test. the bike was a Suzuki 125 with all the power of a 3 legged horse so had to rag it out of the corner to reach the required speed and cocked it up completely through the cones. went round again to do the emergency stop, though it was pointless as I had already failed on the swerve, but thought what the heck, lets just get it over with. went through the speed trap at 35mph, hit the brakes and pulled in the clutch at the same time! result, I locked the rear wheel and down I went. I put my right hand out to break my fall, and hurt my shoulder. I rode the bike home with a very sore shoulder, but just wanted to be done with the bike. That night I was in a lot of pain and discomfort so went to A&E for check-up. They diagnosed a pulled muscle and put me on physio. After 6 weeks of this there was no improvement and I started getting really bad pins & needles, so went to docs for examination. I got booked in for a MRI scan with a injection of some kind of radioactive solution to show up the joint as it is covered with a tough membrane that need seeing through. Turns out I had torn most of the muscle off the shoulder so got booked in for surgery. I had keyhole surgery to insert rawlplugs into the bone in 5 places and the muscle was then attached to the rawlplugs with stitches. None of this put me off riding, as soon as I was fit enough I bought a 1988 Honda cb125 twin, that has 16BHP and took the mod 1&2 on that, and this time I passed both. The pulling in the clutch was a rookie mistake, which I put down to the frustration of ballsing up the swerve test
  7. Nice one. thanks for that light is now flashing again showing the bike is immobilised
  8. Hi fastbob. I'm not worried about flattening the battery as I use the bike 365 days a year, what I was wondering about was is it indeed meant to flash when ignition off, and if so what could have gone wrong to stop it flashing
  9. Hi Tiggie, bike is used every day
  10. Hi All. I have a CBF600 sa8 (2008), and it is fitted with Honda's HISS immobiliser system. My query is about the light on the instrument panel and it's function. I only bought the bike 3 weeks ago, and I am sure the HISS light flashed when the ignition was off, indicating the presence of an immobiliser on the bike, but I noticed today it is no longer doing so. The system seems to be working correctly when the key is inserted and the ignition turned on - the light comes on for 2 seconds then goes out and the bike fires up, but I cannot find any info in either Haynes or the owners manual about it flashing with ignition off So my question is: is the light only meant to flash when ignition is on to indicate faults or should it be on and flashing regularly to show the bike is protected when ignition is off
