  1. Well they seem to think its the battery aswell, though we can't find any jump leads (and after about 20mins in the garage decided they have been lost). Thank you for the help , i'll say if it was it, once we get a shiney new one.
  2. got a parent who i can rope into it. So the car battery will work? (just to be clear, don't want to have to run after my bike as it jumps eight feet away
  3. Thanks, I don't have access to another battery.. well, unless you count a car sitting right next to it. Just glad i won't have to drop the fuel tank if it is the battery.
  4. Hey guys, had a bit of trouble with my motorbike over the winter. Went for its MoT last month and had to have some new parts, but was left sitting out for a few days so the battery ran flat. Charged the battery when i got home and everything seemed fine, till a few days ago. The bike started making a clicking sound when i was trying to start it. After leaving the battery on charge all night, it still had the same problem. I've been able to get at one spark plug, without having to remove the fuel tank, and it looks like it isn't sparking. But this could be due to the battery. I'm the first to admit i'm pants when it comes to mechanics (i can repair a computer with one hand behind my back and both eyes closed, but not bikes), and was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions? Cheers (and hopefully this is in the right board)
  5. Let us (me ), know how it works out.. Never heard of it before, but im also in the same boat. Every time theres a little knock i stop and think.
  6. Ok, thats really close to me , and whats worse, i didn't know there was a cats protection league or whatever down there . Only pop down that street to tax my bike . I'll try to stop by if im not working, but chances are that i am .
  7. Cheers, i'll take a look at them and the posts futher down. I nearly fell off my chair when i noticed just how much draggin' jeans are... They look alot more comfortable than leathers, especially in the hot weather we've been having recently.
  8. Saw one of them yesterday for the first time. Couldn't believe it.. was sure it was a bigger bike, till i saw around the petrol tank... If you pass your test, your restricted in bike terms, but you dont need L plates, as you have passed your test. Anyone using L plates has basically just done a CBT.
  9. Not sure if this have ever been posted before.. But i was out in York the other day and spotted some Jeans with armour in the knee caps and other places... Just wondered if anyone has ever tried them and if they are worth forking out for? Obviously they wont replace leather trousers, but for a hot daily ride in the middle of summer... Its tempting to buy some if they are worth it.
  10. £2.50? Its £2.99 for the biggest filtered coffee . Yeah.. i just work at the place, i hate the prices.. Inflated Moto prices... If you can, seriously stay away from em. Theres normally a café two miles off the motorway if you have the time to look.
  11. Been there.. Still do it... They never really taught me how to filter when i took my test, and on a 125 i always thought there was no point, since once i got to the front i'd just be overtaken again.. So i sat in the traffic (tho if anyones ever been the Lincoln during the morning rush hour, even i filtered in that!). Now im on a bigger bike, wanting to do it, but its outside my comfort zone. Always get other bikes nipping into the space im in while in the queue filtering, normally when im pretty close to the front so can't follow >.<. Cheers for the thread tho, good read.. Might get some confidence to try filtering sometime soon. Just glad my daily ride is motorway all the way.
  12. Was going to say . I work at one of the Costa/EDC's and if there was a visor cleaning service, i'd have been first in line . Mine could do with a fair clean...

    traffic laws

Car drivers will also at times, move to block you filter... Seen it done plenty of times (seen it while i was learning aswell!). Never really done filtering myself. Always said while on a scooter/125cc that the cars would just overtake me on the A road so no point.. Now im on a 500cc... little scared (yeah, im not afraid to admit it!).
  14. I can agree with that! Mine was nicked back in May (inside a house for half an hour tops, heard nothing). When the police phoned back a few days later, i spoke to a biker policeman (great huh? Knowing that we're everywhere . First the police/tech support, then zee vvorld! *holds up a finger*... Ok, so its late...), anyway he said that alot of 125cc's get nicked in the spring, and most of them find there way to around Turkey, and even the bottom part of Spain. Easy money, fake plates and parts are easy to get without asking too many questions. End of the day, if anyone wants it badly enough, they will get it. But thats the story with everything & its not worth getting killed over... Just claim the insurance money and prove you did everything you can to protect it (having said that, my 125 was stolen 9th of May, and im STILL waiting for the insurance!).
  15. Cheers to someone for making this post.. Considering to a bike ride through France to Spain myself in the coming months, so nice to know what is needed (and then what is reccommended by people who have done it!). Good luck on your trip to Germany!
  16. i hate the hazard test.. Just did it recently for my car test. I always click too early, going "Oh yeah, they are using an umbrella, not going to look... nope.. see.. straight into the road, pillocks", so i click far too early. Only just passed on my one because of that. If it makes you feel any better, the hazards that you take in tests, they actually do happen in the road aswell . Seen some classics!
  17. Thanks, depending on work, might take you up on the offer .
  18. My rota only goes up to the 27th, so i'd possibly be able to make it (can have a word with the supervisor, but only just started so still trying to earn brownie points). Would love to come though, since its for a good cause, and would be my first venture anywhere with others. If not, i'll donate to the hospice! (If people are meeting in grimsby like mentioned earlier in the thread, wouldn't mind tagging along, since i wouldn't have a clue where im going!)
  19. Yep, thats the one I went to 2 lidls in my area and not a single scrap of motorbike gear.. not one bit.. Last time i went in there they were doing a load of motorbike gear. Got a good two way radio in Lidl or Aldi. Also were doing some leather jackets (didn't buy them). So surprising they've stopped doing them
  20. had a Honda 2005 CBR125.. Can't fault em. They are very nippy, and a great one to learn on. You'll notice a lack of power once you get past 50mph though, and its a nightmare sitting on a fast 60 road, doing 50 in 5th (and going up to 6th, it starts to slowly creap down!). They handle and turn great, and are extremely light to flick around bends... I had mine untill the 8th of May (it was nicked in Middlesborough >.<). And while, you will eventually outgrow it, its fine for running around town. I've also never had a single problem with it, sailed through its MoT twice, and didn't need to do anything bar oil the chain every few thousand miles. You can also go on motorways which is great , and my top speed (A1/M wind behind my back, down hill etc) was 85mph.. But it was a little stroppy with me for a few days after. Having said that, i wouldn't reccommend doing a long journey on one. About 110miles tops, as the standard seat really starts to hurt after that length of time (around 80miles for me was when i started to ache).
  21. yup, my CBR used to do this. If its a bad day with a headwind, your talking 55 in 5th, and 6th well.. 30? Its a horrible feeling watching the speedometre drop while in 6th and going "no no no no"

Wish we could... Stupid chavs and their parents... And the goverment for giving into them... I've a friend who is compleatly innocent to this. He'll leave something by the garage, go round to fetch the car, and come back to get what he left.. When asked about it, his reply was "Its not theirs, so why should they take it?". Wish we all had this view point, world would be a better place. Still, if i ever catch the chavs that nicked my 125, i can't repeat what i'd do to them, and i hope the police would look the other way just that one time.

hey guys.. Newbie posting here... I'm also very security concious, since i had my old motorbike stolen when visiting a friend in Middlesborough recently (i never want to experience that feeling again in my life). How are Disc brakes normally? I used to use a chain and lock, but bought a disc lock with my new bike yesterday. Love the idea of a flood light.. But does anyone know of the best lock to use when traveling? My stance is, if they are going to want it that badly, nothing is going to stop em. But anything that stops (and preferably might harm) the 16 year old chav from touching my bike, the better the webcam idea is good, but you'll have to make sure you've a very big hard drive unless you can find some motion detection software... (sorry for a semi thread steal )
