  1. Booked my Mod1 for thursday, and the good ol' DSA have been their usualy crappy selves. So with 4 days to go i still cant find the test site in lee on solent. anyone know where it is?? gotta love the gov!
  2. Two reasons I'm doing it. The first being I want some experience in taking bikes to bits, and second for a major cleaning job. I need to keep the bike looking like it came through a time machine in 1990. I've got a centre stand, and 2 shocks, so I could probably get away with it, if I do one at a time, riiiiiight??
  3. much thanks for the responses guys! going to use some "moblie" stuff for now. then i'll consider stopping being lazy and get some real stuff! 1 last question to really spice up the mix, can i take my rear shocks off easily and get them back on easily, or is there a lengthy job of squashing them back onto the bike? CHEERS MUCH DUDES!
  4. Question 1: can i remove the exhaust from my bike without oil or something from the engine coming out? (just the exhuast) Question 2: chain lube, will WD40 or GT75 work? any other oils that will work since i dont have the proper stuff? Thanks in advance!
  5. Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird!! Cheap, fast, comfortable. ok ok so its a bit ugly, but nobody will see that when it becomes a blur past their window!

    Idle speed.

Cheers, that clears a lot up! I've been working on it a bit today, and took it out for a short ride, i think its almost there although it could use a new spark plug, but i'll take it up to the local garage and get them to check it all over anyway! Thanks for you help!! Much appreciated!

    Idle speed.

No. It dosent, have, a m..m..manual . Its not brand new, its like new, 1990, but i think some nostalgic granddad has kept it in his shed for the last 20 years. hehe. To start i open the choke full, (its got 3 settings), and have to kick it a few times, but if i give it throttle before its warm, it cuts out with a pop. I've just been out trying to fix it now, and got the choke onto the middle setting, but as soon as i turn it off/lowest setting, it loses its revs and cuts out! I've turned the idle screw quite a bit, and at first it was increasing revs quite fast, but now theres not a lot of difference. Thanks, for the pic by the way, it helped!!

    Idle speed.

Does anyone know how to change the idle speed on a 1990 Honda CG (sounds worse than it is!) Its a bugger to start up at the moment, and I reckon it might be to do with the idle. Also theres quite a bit of a deadzone on the throttle grip. Could that have something to do with it? And before you ask if a yobbo's been thrashing it about before me - its in mint condition, it's hardly been ridden! 5000 miles! Thanks in advance!
  9. Thats about right. Its an 08 reg. and the problems are, starter motor, rear tyre, drive system, ignition barrel, indicator lens, rear light fittings, secondary air filter cover, and actually, i think thats about it. lol all that plus labour is £200+. and about a week in the shop. yeah, i found a decent shop! hehe one good things happend though, shes called me up (while at a party, so maybe drunk) and told me she loves me. if you want to use your mechanical expertise for the better, to help a biker, then tell me why women are so damn frustrating and confusing!!
  10. My ignition barrel had been getting really stiff to turn, and getting the key in was a nightmare recently, so i stopped at a bike shop on my way to meet a girl (with whom, my chances are now ruined cos she thinks i stood her up with a "lame" excuse! ) When i got there, i told the bloke about the problem, and he had a go at wriggling the key about and said maybe its bent. so uh, well i tried straightening it, and it snapped, the key snapped in my hand! the key!! i couldnt, and still cant believe it! the engineers took a look round my bike while i was waiting for a lift home, and spotted tonnes of problems with it. so now, 1 snapped key is going to cost about £200+. BUGGER! the moral of the story is, KEYp it lubed, or the chances with the girl are significantly reduced!!
  11. Nothing like italian 50cc bikes! Haha. their engineering is rubbish!! lol Electric starts on these are CRAP!!! I've fixed mine a few times by whipping off the grey cover where the kick start is, and giving it a very GOOD clean with either petrol or white spirit. Mates is broken, makes a dinging noise when he starts it. Electrics are...okay, not excellent, check all yer wiring, over and over again, give the bike a good thorough clean with petrol or white spirit, works really well for me, take as much of it to bits as you can, and clean it thoroughly, fixes most problems on mine. The more you take to bits, the more problems you'll discover, and be able to fix. **and my lights are dimming on low RPM ???** - Lights dimming is normal. Know this doesn't help much, but its better than nothing i think!! Have fun!!
  12. the carbs just in front of the rear mudguard, theres a cover you'll need to whip off, and if you know what a carb looks like you'll be away, if not just ask! happy to help!
  13. nothings easy with these bikes mate!
  14. dont know about the exhaust corrosion causing it but i think most DNA's do that, i know mine and a mates does. but 3000 rpm's quite high, mine hovers around 1900, so lower it down a bit, the screw for that is on, or near the carb. much better for yer money!
  15. Not sure if our bikes would make that distance!! If you need anything else with the bike, lemme know. most bits on mine have broken or been broken at some point!
