1. Did there used to be a link at the bottom of a thread back to Active topics? Scrolling back up is tedious and i’m Not sure I used to need to do it.

Yes there did but I have removed it :)

    How come?

  2. Sounds like the sort of thing I do. Started so I'll finish. The difference i noticed with a bigger bike was feeling much safer on any road with a limit over 50mph. Part of it is about being able to accelerate into a gap when joining a carriageway. The other part is I want to be able to consistently go faster than Lorries rather than have them overtake me on duel carriageways that are going uphill or into the wind.

All of that said I think I am about to insure my 125 until I am confident in my 600 and she will do just fine.

thing abuot bikes seems to be that it's not necessairly about the engine size as to whether I like them or not (although more grunt is bettter for me) but rather the seating position. I sat on the Lexmoto cruiser style one when I was looking to buy my first bike and could not get on with the seating position. Similarly the 750 I have from the insurance is less pleasant than my ZZR and less powerful. Funnny old world.

  3. Here is the latest. I have just spoken to my claims handler.

I have to accept the valuation as is for now and that does end the replacement bike whether I like it or not. They are referring up the chain to ask about having the hire bike longer without cost to me. We are disputing the valuation given by the other insurance company.

Because I am third party insurance we are stuck with the claims handling company talking to the third party and there is little I can do. If I was fully comp I am told that my insurance company would be involved and would have paid me or something like that.

The third party have issued a payment which I find insulting on a not prejudiced basis or something that means they have not acknowledged fault yet either.

It seems that even though I do not have enough money to replace my bike it's tough, I can raise it myself with the third party insurance company and I can complain and then take it to the ombudsmen which I will once we have finished through the claim handlers. IS this everyone else's experience?

    Any advice?

  4. Can't say as i 'enjoyed' riding in the cold and wet (and i defy anyone to say they do!!), there again riding in extreme high temps is also not fun either.

I agree, I feel quite sorry for that XTreme person. They seem to have to tolerate consistently high temperatures that I only have to manage some days a year. I find it easier to dress for cold and wet and be safe than really hot and still be safe.

I only have one full winter under my belt but I rode throughout all of that and enjoyed it for the most part. I enjoyed today but will want to do something extra to stay warm. I have clothes for winter mountaineering which will help.

  5. Bloomin chilly this morning. Fog on the M40 and A 46 and A 45 this morning too. I shall be glad once I change jobs next year and my commute is less 65mph in traffic on non fun roads getting cold. :-)

  6. Thanks for the advice. I will be careful.

I need a bike and I don’t like the idea of being offered a derisory amount and having to give the hire bike back before I have enough to buy a replacement or mend my bike or whatever.

What annoys me (in advance) is I thought the point of the insurance is that I am not too inconvenienced for someone else’s error.

  7. Must been thinking of my conversation with the claims handler. They were saying that if the appeal is successful I will get the extra in a second check.

Been thinking and I think I should not give up the hire bike (at other drivers expense) until I have the mount that would replace my bike? Does that seem right? The handler suggested the appeal could take 5-6 weeks?!

  8. I fully understand that thinking Stu for us my bike/bikes are utilitarian as well as fun. We have a car but it’s for the family and with working 20+ miles away from home i’d Rather it was at home in case my wife and kids need to get to a hospital or something.

If I can get my zzr safe and roadworthy it really already probably is the best of both worlds. Top box and my usual riding style brings 50-60mpg.

But there is part of me that wants to cherish the bike not just use it until it’s knackered.

All of which is daft sentimental nonsense.

If I really wanna get an extra 50% mpg I will ride the 125. I do quite like fantasy though, it’s astonishing what you can buy there.
