  1. Hi All

I have just aquired a 1980 Honda Superdream.

The first issue on the agenda is that the brakes dont work. (I have no idea how it passed MOT!)

When pulling the front brake the bit point is when the lever is nearly hitting the brakes. I suspect they just need a good bleed but im worried it might be the seals or something seing as its 31 years old!)

    Any ideas?

  2. I had HID headlights in my vara for a while, didnt burn the housing or anything, but the beam pattern was awfull.

I have retrofitted projectors inside the lamp housing, with HID's.

This way, the beam pattern is perfect, and the lights are excellent!

  3. If you dont have one you have to leave it alone lol

Cant say I use mine either!

commutiing through london every day, I can say I use my hi's a lot. I tend to let people pass instead of them crashing into me.

  4. Hi all

How hard do you think it would be to add a "passing light" switch on my varadero.

Every other honda I have ridden has had this switch but mine doesnt, and the high beam switch is stupid for fast flashes.

The wiring etc wouldnt be hard, just figuring out the best type of switch/arrangment to get it done, any ideas?

    Thanks

    You mean you use it?

    Indeed

  6. Hi all

I found a NSR125 from a mate who had a slight accident in it about 6 months ago.

Here it is next to my Vara:

    the bad:

It has a dented fuel tank, smashed headlights, leaking forks, missing left hand fairing, smashed/cracked right hand fairing, broken rear left fairing, needs a good clean, new battery, exhaust gasked and a general tune up.

    The good:

    got it for 200!

Now I just need to find a good source of parts, mostly the fairings, impossible to find!

    Any ideas anybody?

Stay tuned to this thread for updates

  7. Hey, your username rings a bell but I cant quite remember, something Varadero related anyway. If they are saying those other two things need

Maybe im confused but didnt I buy or sell something to/from you? a top box/plate maybe?

    Aha yes!

I bought a top box from you a fair bit of time ago now! In fact the key snapped in the lock recently, so I fitted some quick release clasps as it lives on the back of the bike most of the time anyway!

  8. Hey, your username rings a bell but I cant quite remember, something Varadero related anyway. If they are saying those other two things need adjusting, they should do them free of charge under the warranty, and especially as was only in for its service recently like you said. I have to say my Honda dealership are no better. When I had my Varadero which I had bought brand new from them, they were not that interested in helping me when I had a couple of issues. Its like they have the nice shiny showroom, some of the best bikes in the world, but is just the sale that interests them, their aftercare is a bit weak in my opinion.

Yeah, I was looking to get a link pipe made up for a Devil exhaust on the Vara.

I have just checked the documentation, it was serviced exactly 2 months ago and I have done around 700 miles in that time.

To be honest its just shoddy and I wont be taking my business back there again. Simple.

I learnt the same with my car (a 2000 e320 cdi merc) that unless I do ALL the work on it myself, its simply impossible to find somebody who knows what they are doing on it, without trying out different parts on my expense. Since then, I have learnt more than most garages will know about the specifics on my car, and I intend to do the same on the bike. Shame I was sucked in by the service plan.

  9. Used daily I would have thought it would last longer.

But you say it isn't holding a charge? What sort of distance is your regular journey? enough to charge it fully do you think?

A new battery would be around the £50 mark, so I'd replace it anyway, if they gonna charge you £50 to look at it under warranty ...

Does sound like poor service though. But that doesn't surprise me, being a new bike owner meself, once I got the bike, their service has been less than adequate, suffice to say I will never go to that particular dealer again.

Yeah, its about 40 mins journey each way around, 11miles.

Bit of a shame, more and more business these days forget about customer service, I mean bikers are more likely to know what they are talking about.

Massive pain in the arse is all, especially considering they arent cheap! I think I will probs just replace it myself, but I wont be using that dealer once the service plan is done.

  10. or a second opinion from a independant garage

So you think that if I go to an indy, get them to say the battery is faulty, and take this back to the dealership in writing that they will honour this?

Its really frustrating having such a stubborn dealer.

    amongst other things they said,

    a) the chain and alignment needs doing

    b) the headstock bearings needed adjusting

Thing is, they serviced it under 400 miles (3 weeks!) ago!

To top it off, they are charging a £50 diagnostic fee for looking at it under warranty....

  11. Hi all

My varadero recently went in for a bad battery, upon returning it, Honda say its fine, and that its down to the amoutn of accessories that I have on the bike (digital thermomter, HID headlights, TPMS). The thing is that the accesories are all switched.

The battery refuses to accept a charge, I can remove it from the bike, put it on charge overnight, put it back in the bike , and it will refuse to start.

yet, This Honda dealership claim that the battery passes a load test and that there is nothing wrong with it......

    GRR!

  12. Hi all

I have some experience in the car areas of diagnostics, but wonder what the honda dealerships use on bikes such as my 2010 varadero 125. This particular bike has 2 cats and some o2 sensors (crazy!). Im wondering if there is something as easy as an ODB type socket I can grab some info from?

  13. Did you manage to get the horn mounted ok and did you need to use the Relay with it.

I fancy fitting one of these to my bike

I havent done so yet, my weekend has been jam packed, hopefully next weekend :)

  14. Best bet would be to invest in an Abba stand, can use it for both front and back, and on all bikes you own in the future (subject to correct adapters). Around the £100 quid mark though ...

A google search will throw up some results, as will a search on ebay. Might seem an expensive outlay, but it would pay for itself for sure.

Dunno if this is the answer you are looking for .... but hth

Exactly what im looking for, thanks!

I remeber seing a really innovative motorbike stand somewhere but cant remember where, may have to have a search.

  15. Hi all

I indent to some work on my Baby vara (xl125v 125) honda soon and I have no center stand. :(

Im going to be doing the front tyre, front and rear pads.

Just wondering what sort of kit I can use, something along the lines of a bike jack / lift ?

Does anybody have any first hand experience with diff types of stands?

    Thanks all!

  16. You may be lucky mate, but it would probably be cheaper to get me to sort it.Let me know ? You nheed some accurate measurements, diameters and angles???

Defo, A bit jam packed this weekend, so I will get the measurments across next week if thats ok?

  17. I've got the Stebel Magnum.

I took it to bits, liberally covered all the connecting edges with exterior sealant (the brown stuff from B&Q), bolted it all back together, and mounted it facing forwards underneath the headlamp. I've never had a problem with it yet, even though it faces into the rain.

Thanks, might have to have a look at that if I cant hide it in some fairing :)
