Failed cbt - very disappointed!
Spongefinger replied to Bludoggo's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
I failed my first CBT due to poor clutch control pretty much stalled it every time I went to pull away and to be honest I had got myself wound up and that made it worse. School said to come back in a couple of days. I paid £50 and was taken round the paddock course once and I was fine it clicked and I felt calm, went out on a 30 minute road ride and the guy said I looked really good and got signed off. I know it easy to say do t feel bad but I did as on the original day the other 5 guys passed easily so I felt pretty shit but after a couple of days of feeling sorry for myself I went back and the rest is history now slowly doing my full licence. -
" I’ve approached many bike schools in the region to ask but I’d describe the response as dismissive or worse. It’s CBT or don’t bother pal." This just goes to show the importance of finding a decent school. The one I did my CBT with just wanted the day over as quick as possible and I didn't feel confident once I got my certificate. I'm at a different school for my DAS and they couldn't be more helpful, I've met guys there doing a taster session before a CBT and they have a First Ride option which is a couple of hours without the pressure of taking a CBT . Also something else mentioned was that they won't let you out unless you are ready but I'm not sure all school are that bothered. When I went on my first road ride with my DAS school they said I would have passed a CBT with them and it was evident that I was missing a fair bit if crucial training.

Hi All, I was just wondering if you had a 250cc motorcycle that only produced 11kw could you ride it on CBT ?
-
This could work to a degree. Theoretically at least. I'm a photographer and when I use flash guns they have a slave setting. That means if another flash gun goes off near them they will fire. So you could mount a flash gun and point it to your plate. The issue I could see apart from 1) It being highly illegal 2) Drawing even more attention to yourself as you light up is that depending on how fast you passed the camera the flashgun sensor may be out of range before it has a chance to go off.

First Jacket and armour
Spongefinger replied to NE150N80's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Hi, I started my motorcycle journey in August and same as you wanted reasonable gear but didn't have a fortune to spend. I shopped around got a end of line RST jacket for £55 from the visor shop, RST textile trousers for £75 and gloves for £35 from the spirts bike shop. I already had boots that had decent protection and was lucky enough to have a friend who sold me a helmet he only used a couple if times and didn't like. Happy shopping ! -
Sounds like you'll only be using for a few months before DAS so get a second hand Jap. I'm not against Lexmoto they serve a purpose but if you buy new you can kiss a large amount of the asking price goodbye the second you drive it from the dealer. Also if you drop the bike it won't seem like end of the world if it's a old runabout.

You can't practice until you get through the CBT. I'm with Bender on the bicycle idea. Its not a question of months. It could be days. Any old sh1t bike will do. Just get on it and ride. Not even fast. Balance is most important at LOW speeds. its moving off and stopping that causes most people difficulty. Also looking from side to side. You need that for your shoulder checks (lifesavers). When you can ride a bicycle in a figure of 8, stop and put your foot down you are a good way into riding something with an engine. Good luck. Thanks for the advice. Will have plenty of time to practice as they are fully booked for cbt until the 21st of September It sounds like whoever you used were tossers pure and simple. Hope they didn't take your money if that is how it actually went. I took two days to complete my CBT. I am not a natural on the bike. And it probably had something to do with making a couple of BMW and Merc drivers shit their pants as I careered at them round a corner, unable to turn. As you say, you've found another place. Hopefully they'll do more 1on1 and help you get settled a bit on the bike. Mine got us to use our throttle hand with nothing else, just to get the feel. Then as Bender says, get a 125 and practice every single chance you can. Is exactly what I am doing. Good Luck Hell yes, they've took the money. I wouldn't been bothered about £130 if they've actually showed interest on my progressing but I do start to feel like I was robbed well, I'll just let that pass as in life you do have a lot to learn from bad experiences. And thank you If it's something you really want to do perhaps you could arrange some one on one training ? A couple of hours one to one and I'm sure you would be fine.

Restricted bikes Petition (new biker experience)
Spongefinger replied to Sarriea101's topic in Motorbike Chat
It amazes me what some parents do. I know of someone who twice took the blame for thier 17 year old sons speeding racking up points and fines just to keep thier kid on the road driving like an idiot -
Restricted bikes Petition (new biker experience)
Spongefinger replied to Sarriea101's topic in Motorbike Chat
My Wifes Younger Brother Got a 1.6 Fiesta ST at 17. Would brag to me all the time about him and his mates racing on the bypass going +100mph. He had two crashes in the first year that we actually know about, I'm betting he had other shunts and bumps he kept quiet. If he had been on a motorbike of the same power output I am absolutely confident he would be dead. How in earth did he get insured at 17 with two accidents !! His premiums must have been more that the value of the car -
Theory test done!
Spongefinger replied to KiwiBob's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
I finished mine quickly but we were allowed to leave whenever we wanted. Was handy because if I had to wait I probably would have been the last out so then had to be last in the queue. My test centre was up a couple of flights of tight steep stairs , I waited until I was leaving to look aty results and was concentrating so much on the paper I fell down the stairs -
Well done !! I was supposed to have my mod 1 in Ipswich yesterday and mod 2 is Bas right about now !

DAS Thoughts ?
Spongefinger replied to Spongefinger's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
How did you get in on the big bike today ? Really well thanks mate. Just booked my DAS this morning 5th September is my mod1 training which lasts 6 hours on a 650 Gladius. Then my actual test is 9th september. You booked yours in yet mate? Glad to hear it went well. Unfortunately getting training and tests sorted it going to be tricky for me now that why ideally needed to get it done and dusted this week. I'll.get there eventually but I think it's going to take a bit more time now. -

Spongefinger replied to Spongefinger's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
Shit! Sorry to hear that @Spongefinger. Has your instructor manage to move your Mods to later dates? Hopefully someone might hand in your wallet, got my fingers crossed for you. Yeah they were really good about it, they checked the premises and had a drive around the route we took out if the industrial park to see if I dropped it but no luck.they also said this time of year tests dates are in such high demand they would have no issue filling my spots and they will fit the rest of my training and tests in when I get my licence back they also offered me rental of a 125 for £20 a day whenever I want to practice until I can go back. -
