  1. well, i don't know anything about the bike, or much about bikes in general being a noob but.. if it is a 2008 model i'm guessing it will have a pretty complicated engine management system (much like cars, which i know quite alot more about ) so, chances are it could have a coolant temp sensor, an idle control valve, electric throttle body (no throttle cable), fuel pressure regulator, ecu, coil pack(s) (rather than ht leads) and maybe more. if its an intermittant problem then the dealer are going to find it hard to find the fault if they can't replicate the problem. take it back to the dealer and let them have it for longer, or take it to another one. bear in mind though that if you go in kicking and screaming and demanding this that and the other you're only going to get their backs up asking for a replacement bike is fine, but ask, don't demand!

  4. any ideas of how this could have happened, or what damage may have been done? it happened on the way to the grand prix on friday. i was gunning it past a couple of cars and a lorry on a fairly long straight-ish single carriageway. i noticed a van up ahead and then spotted that the lane i was overtaking in was coned off and there were temporary traffic lights which were just turning red so the van was braking. i had to slam on the anchors and was down shifting when i put it in first and the revs just flew up! i stopped safely and the engine was running fine but when i pulled away again i could hear a clonking sound. it went away as the revs rose and it changes up and down gears with no problems. i carried on my journey and every time i pull away, from standstill or rolling, i get the same clunking noise untill the revs rise. i've looked around and i can't see anything obviously loose but the chain is extremely slack now. i asked someone to watch me pull away slowly and he said the chain was bouncing around. just looking for a bit of info as to how this could have happened and if it would have caused any other damage, i'm a noob to this biking malarky!
  5. with only 1 minor, and that was on the way back at a junction 10 yards from the test centre! The test itself went well and i was pretty confident when we got back. my only concerns were about the speed i was doing on a couple of roads. i thought i may have been going too slowly as i didn't see any limit signs until further down the road. i almost had a disaster before we'd even started though. the examiners bike had broken down on the previous test! bugger! after he'd made a few phone calls though he decided to follow me in a car but it was touch and go. if the AA had called before we had got started he would have had to go to the bike and postpone my test. luckily that didn't happen, and the rest is history.
  6. thanks guys and good luck to those of you who are testing soon
  7. yep thats right, i passed mod 1 test this morning, with 0 minors!! mod 2 is booked for 23rd, i lets hope i get the same result!
