Get some sintered pads and braided hoses
You could have cheap pads in there which can make the brakes feel spongey
You could also have air trapped in the caliper some can be a tw*t to get out
Don't listen to anyone saying the the brake lever back over night to make the air come out it doesn't work its a sealed unit once lever is pulled nothing can get out although it can help air rise
I tried the lever tied back thing and it didn't make much diference to be honest
Ill get new pads and hose and hopefully that will sort it out.
thanks a lot

brake slipping????........do you mean its not stopping the bike ? maybe its not fully bled properly or the rubber brake hose has perished
yeah its not stopping the bike much though the brake has been bled to death and no air is coming out for the last quater litre.
Just feels like there is no grip on the pads to disc
-
Having bled my brakes the brake is still very weak.
When I bought the bike it had fairly new pads but I am now wondering if they are contaminated ?
Should I buy New pads and a stainless goodridge hose ?
Would this stop the brake slipping or should I sand the pads that are in it and keep the standard hose ?
If anyone else had this type of problem I would be happy for any Tips.

She Lives ...............
Spent the day messing with the brake and ended up rebuilding it as I had put too many O rings in and in the wrong place so it was jamming the caliper
Did up all the final nuts and bolts,Fitted the fuel tap then Filled her up with Fuel from a can.
quick final check over and switched on the ignition ...Pressed the starter button and Brrrrrrrrooom It roared into life
I was pretty amazed it started on the first turn and proceded to tick over like a swiss watch
I took it out into the back lane and gave it a few runs up and down (going careful as the brake is still pretty weak)
Just a few piccky of the maiden voyage and the Dream out in the sunlight

Very nice job young man. I think the bike looks really nice but i think the front mudguard should also be black to match the rear one or the other way around. Only my opinion, as the bike would not come from the factory with odd guards.
You are in fact completly correct
The bike was black front and rear when I got it and from the factory chrome front and rear.
My problem was when I went to restore the front one it was too far gone and rotten through so I had to buy a new one.
It takes a braver man than me to paint a Brand new shiney Chrome guard, black so That is how it is at the moment ....
I May paint the new guard but it is So shiney !!!
Maby I will start a trend >?

OMG, just amazing. got to thank YOU for keeping this diary going through all the trials and tribulations you must have had.
the bike is fantastic, a real testament to your hard and unwavering love of labour on this bike.
THANK YOU
PLEASE END WITH A FLIER OF AN MOT CERT. PLEASE PLEASE.
Thanks a lot
I am getting it MOT'ed next week Hopefully so I will post when it em passes
When the Fuel tank is dry I can fuel it up and test the engine still works

That is a beautifully restored bike!
I trust you're really proud of what you've achieved - you should be!!
thanks Susie I am way to knackard to feel proud yet
I was fighting the bike all the way from 7am to 6 pm today
Stunning, Polecat, seriously the bike now looks stunning, brilliant job and superb threadThanks
It is funny cos it was 31 march I bought it and now its last day of june so exactly 3 months start to finish !
Was a lot harder than expected and cost more and took more time, but apart from that It was all I imagined it would be

Very busy day today fitting the Motad exhaust (after 3 hours I felt like I ended up making it) ,Spray the fuel tank,Wiring, set up carbs and Finish bits and bobs.
All that needs doing now is Fix the horn (which used to work) tighten up all the loose bolts ,finish bleeding the brakes ,bit more cleaning on the engine , Start up said engine and get it MOT'ed
Anything else can be done when its on the road as I need to get my life back
-
It works !!!!!!!!
Allthough I must confess that i got so excited when my brake started to work that I forgot to top up the resevoir ..oops
-
as the new fluid is coming out as long as you are saving it into a clean jar/tub you can reuse it to top up
good point well made !!
-
Done it a few times, sometimes been piss easy, other times I have used loads ....
How long is a piece of string jobbie .... try the lever thing first ...
Thanks Dan I will keep trying (its my first time)
Hope the piece of string is not more than half a litre
-
Sounds like air still in there mate. An old trick is to tape the brake lever in overnight, allow any bubbles to rise to resovoir....
Thanks ....How much brake fluid would you expect to pump through as I only have half a litre ?

Hi,
I just bled my brakes and pushed all the air through using one of those one way valve bleeder kits.
Problem is when all the air was gone I closed the nipple and the brake has no resistance at all .
What Am I doing wrong

Congrats polecat, looks like an awesome bike. Must be well proud of it
Cheers M8
Yeah I am starting to feel pleased but so close to the finish line I am trying not to get my hopes up too much In case something goes bad
I Must say it has been quiet an experience doing this that I would reccomend to anybody that knows Nothing about bikes to have a go, because after doing something like this, Any job on your "day" bike will seem a doddle

Seat looks good. It'll look better when it's been sat on for a few hundred miles.
True......Didnt think of that
Hopeing to wire up the Clutch today and if my Order arrives in the post I will fit the brake, bleed it and leading up to the weekend Fit the exhaust pipes and Paint the fuel tank.
I hope to have it finished and fired up at the end of the week and the battery is currently charging up
Two things against me at the moment are the weather (cloudy and humid) and the Post delevery ( late and things going missing )
I am slightly aprehensive about doing the top coat on the tank because it Has to be pretty much perfect and that is hard to acheive without a Spray booth but apart from the risk of dust My conservetory is nice and warm and breeze free.
How she's looking today .....

they sometimes go onto the engine mounting bolt nearest the battery try but to be honest any good earth point will do.if onto mounting bolt it should have the nut that side of the engine so you dont have to take the bolt itself out
Thanks ....using logic helped a lot
It went on the top Jesus bolt
-
Can anybody tell me exactly where the earth wire connects (not the battery end
)
It is the only thing I did not take a photo of and now Im wondering which Bolt it goes on ....
cheers

I have fitted two of them buzzery things and its dead easy
buy the Kit from Ebay and all you do is snap the connector over your exsisting indicator wire and it automaticaly cuts into the wire and forms a connection so no need to do any wiring at all !

Basically the swingarm on my bike could do with being resprayed as the paint has worn away in some places and I want to respray it, so I am going to spray it black. I have seen somebody on here respray there swingarm, it looks good but I want more of a matt black like bikes come stock rather than a shiny effect.
Like this:

I think what you want is a SATIN black not matt
Hamerite do a nice smooth chip resistant satin in aerosol if your interested
