  1. My mum's got induction hobs and they're amazing. Boil water in no time at all and don't get hot.....it's a very weird experience being able to take the pan off the hob and sticking your hand straight onto it without getting burnt.

  2. I've got to replace my headstock bearings as they're getting a bit notchy. I have always used ball race bearings before but someone has recommended that i try tapered bearings as they're easier to fit and last longer. I've never used tapered bearings before so is there any benefit to them fitting or handling wise?

  3. Yeah I thought it was a bit harsh as well, it was a perfect opportunity for the copper to educate him as to what he should have done rather than give him points at such an early stage of his driving career, but I guess he just caught the officer on a bad day or gave him backchat - which he says he didn't. I've always drilled it in to him how dangerous and stupid it is to use the phone while driving and he listened but still got caught out.

We have dashboard cameras in our trucks at work and we've always been told (to prevent needless disciplinary processes and potential sacking) that if you have to use the phone you take the keys out of the ignition and make sure they can be seen by the camera as my employer has been known to hugely overreact if they want to get rid of you - we're not even allowed to use bluetooth headsets when driving.

  4. As for the driver in the orignial post... no excuse for causing others to brake. very poor!!

However, I bet i could drive better whilst on the phone, than most of the retards i encounter out on the roads!!

Not that i do use my phone whilst driving as i dont want the points, but i do have hands free my cars and regularly use hands free to chat to people whilst driving. I will end the call if driving into potentially tricky situations, just the same as I turn the stereo down when maneuvering in carparks - its all common sense!!

Interestingly though, the law states its illegal to use a phone whilst stopped with the engine running, so what about modern cars with Stop/Start whose engine switches off at traffic lights??? no law broken if the engine is not running :booty: :booty:

The law states that you can't use a mobile phone while in control of a vehicle, being sat in it with the keys in the ignition is enough to be in control of the vehicle (my 18 year old cousin just got slapped with 3 points for pulling into a bus stop with the engine off to take a call).

  5. At the end of the day its up to coppers to get em aint it, its just frustrating their never around when shit is happening!

There's a short article in the current MCN about a police operation in London that targeted drivers using their mobiles whilst driving and they didn't have enough coppers there to stop everyone they saw doing it.

  6. The front brake light switch on my gsxr 600 k4 has given up the ghost and I remember reading somewhere about hydraulic switches as a replacement. Is there any advantage of these over electrical ones (I assume there's less to go wrong with a hydraulic switch)? I've had a look at a couple of sites - wemoto and demon tweeks among others - but can't seem to find anything, can anyone point me in the right direction for places to get a double banjo bolt with built in switch?

    Thanks

  7. What's the best stuff to use to lubricate a clutch cable and the best way to do it? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that fork oil was the best stuff to use but I'm not sure if I'm recalling that correctly.

    Thanks

Retrofitted this to my gixxer on the dipped beam, despite it saying they're for the blackbird. Brilliant mod, I don;t need the main beam anymore! :D All it's got is a replacement bulb and a balast box about the size of a packet of cigarettes, it's got quite a bit of wire as well so you're unlikely to find the bulb won't reach the headlight once you've found somewhere to store the balast box.

  9. Same. Before i did it i looked at the discs and they weren't sitting straight and i thought they were warped. A friend recommended i try turning the rivets and bingo! no more vibrations under braking :D

Not sure i explained it properly but these bits. Make sure you use washers though coz it takes bloody ages to fish the nut out of the rivets if you forget

  11. Have you got floating brake discs? I had a similar problem when i changed my pads which turned out to be partly down to a sticking piston (the previous owner had evidently had problems and rather than overhaul the calipers he just took the dust seals out!) and partly down to the rivets holding the discs to the rotors being gummed up with crap and stopping them floating. If you can get a bolt on the inside of the rivet (if it's a hollow rivet) tighten a nut on to it and give it a few turns and watch the crap come pouring out of it.

  12. On checking my lights all work today i noticed that my rear brake pedal seems to be sticking at the top of it's movement so the brake light is staying on even though no brakes are applied. The movement of the pedal other than that is fine it's just that i need to physically lift the pedal the last 1mm or so to get the pedal to sit how it should and so the brake light turns off.

I've tried cleaning the springs in case any gunk on them was the cause but that's made no difference at all and after this i'm at a loss to think what the cause may be. If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated

    Thanks
