  1. Just sat down. 5 hour drive and bike is in garage, trailer parked up. Fantastic weekend. Lovely people. Great organising and s bloody good laugh. Can,t wait till next year. Let,s have a Christmas do???
  2. Stuck in traffic again. Gonna be 1500 ish in Matlock.
  3. Right, it,s 1000, just leaving home. Should be in Matlock about 1330ish. If anybody wants beer, meet me on Sainsburys car park about then, or post on here when you will be there. See ya,ll later.
  4. Nice one mate . I did buy two sets of imperial gauges, but couldn't find metric.
  5. If Friday evening is dry, I am gonna explore old haunts. If it,s showery on Saturday, I,ll be out. If pi$$ING down , gonna be forced into the pub!!!
  6. I,ll be in the Passat with numerous cans in the boot. Wanna make most of Friday afternoon, evening. Can nip out for shopping whenconvenient or raining. Whahey. Is there s supermarket in Matlock?
  7. Will try to get some on the way , bit don,t know a good shop in the area. Good man Ingah.
  8. I should be there mid afternoon. Anybody fancy a dry rideout Friday early evening?
  9. Valve clearance should be checked and set when cam lobe is opposite valve. At tdc some valves are closed, some are open and some are in between. Turn crank clockwise until you see a cam that is opposite the valve, ie valve is fully closed, then check clearance. Turn crank some more until you can repeat this until all are done.
  10. No, tappets are not valves mate. They used to be the screw and locknut that you use to adjust your valve clearances. Modern engines tend to have shims on top of buckets that sit on top of the valves. You can,t adjust shims, you have to change them. If you come to Winster, we,ll have a go?
  11. Just been sorting my tools for the rally and I can,t find my feeler gauges. Can somebody bring some or buy me a set of METRIC ones.? Ingah, can you bring your vacuum gauges? Anyone that wants work done on their bike, please bring your Woirkshop manual? Should be there late afternoon, so once my bike is off the trailer , tent pitched and beer in hand, we can do some jobs.?
  12. Thanks Vicki, can,t do enough for a great site and such nice people.
  13. Haynes Workshop manual mate.
  14. We can check em and adjust em if not shims! Bring manual or clearances. Has anybody got any gauges???
  15. I,m on my own in Passat with bike on trailer.Leaving late morning, arrive early evening Using A21, M25, M40,M1 to jct28. If you want anything carrying or need a lift, post on here and I,ll try to oblige???
  16. What yorbandit said. Don,t worry about the weather! Forecasts are usually crap and if it does rain, just park the bike and drink more alcohol. hic!
  17. Mine are self taught too mate and I ain't saying they,re the best, just my way. If anyone wants any work doing at the rally, bring the parts, borrow my tools and I will advise .We can all learn at the Same time!!! Ideally , we can check someone,s valve clearances at the rally and I won,t have to lug this bloody engine around!!!
  18. It,s just a question of positioning and leverage. We should be able to sort summat out. Can you post pix of your bike on stand and when it,s in position ready to lift.? I may be able to bring something with me that may help.
  19. Will be bringing my rear paddock stand, do you have bobbins LC? Can help you with suspension.
  20. Oh dear, haven t got an engine crane!!!
  21. If you can bring em with ya, we can give it a go. Shock swaps are easy if we can support the frame/ swingarm spindle. I only have two axle stands and a 10mm spindle to support my bike?
  22. Just wondered if people are still interested in this. If enough interest in engine maintenance, I will bring my spare GSXR750 engine and do valve clearance and timing checks. Let me know what you want to learn or see and I will bring the tools. Don,t mind working on your bikes, but I,m disclaiming any responsibility if anything goes wrong. Not that I expect it to?
  23. Yup, and hopefully a cut out switch or warning buzzer/ light?
  24. I can measure yours up and make summat for both hopefully?
