  1. Unfortunately here the max NCD you can get is 50% and you only get that after 13 years of no claims........I often wondered why so many French cars have dings in the bodywork that haven't been repaired......I now have my answer!

Honda CB500X- €310 (and that's with full NCD!)

France?  You can send it direct to the police though and they will look at it.

Just going to get worse here.

The national dashcam safety portal was launched last July offering an easy way for drivers to submit video evidence of illegal actions on the road that authorities can use for to convict those found breaking the law.

In the first 12 months of the database being available, some 4,891 clips were uploaded to the portal, resulting in 1,223 prosecutions

It's a mindset thing and I agree that it's likely to get worse there. Not condoning the actions of idiots on the road, but in this instance who knows what may have gone on leading up to the picture. Undoubtedly the biker brought a lot of it on himself by trying to pervert the course of justice.

I watch some of those dashcam videos on YouTube from time to time and quite a few of them I can see what's going to happen before it does. Some drivers seem to prefer to hit the horn rather than take their foot of the throttle a bit. Driving standards have definitely dropped over the years.

    Thats the plan...lol

10 year will take me to 57. I can't imagine doing my job on full shifts past 60.

Got to get there yet mind.

Sounds like you've got a plan then, mate. Fingers crossed.

    You do right mate.

I've only a good 10 year to do now. I hope...

I retired 4 years early........just had enough of it and found that the private pensions I've got would give me enough to live on as we'd paid off the mortgage. Mandy is still going to work for a bit longer, so the new bike will come in handy and I'll get myself a project bike too at some point.

Early retirement is worth looking into, Neil. 😉

Aye. Had a good first week.

Then had to go back to work.....

    Ah.....work......I remember that! 😂

I had an old boss from my last company phone me up a few weeks ago asking if I was interested in some work......"no, I'm alright, thanks mate!" 😂

Bet you can change that

Probably......but the gendarmes out here are pretty hot on speeding, with zero tolerance on speeds, so keeping it in KM's is probably a good idea 😂

When the salesman told me that the service interval is 12000, I thought that was really good......but then remembered it is KMs.....so not that good! 😂

Friends who have ridden them tell me they’re bloody good bikes. Any chance of a review after you’ve covered a few km’s?

    Definitely mate.....😎

  10. You'll need to do training for the bike tests, so use that time to learn from the instructors.....get a good instructor and listen to what they tell you and You'll be fine. Doesn't hurt to do a bit of further training once you've passed your test too. 👍

  11. Well, I've not been on recently because I was sans bike.......but that situation has been remedied at last......just need the travel restrictions lifted here and I can get out and put some kM's on it. Bit of a reduction in power from my previous steed, but I think that I can live with that....😁

  12. Not condoning what happened (3 lives changed forever on that day), but the talk about just letting the insurance sort it out assumes that the guy who owned the bike had more than 3rd party only insurance? Maybe the thieves threatened him with a claw hammer whilst they ground his disk lock off? He must have seen them take the bike, otherwise he wouldn't have caught up with them in a car. So, there's probably more to this than has been reported and maybe that's what caused him to chase them down? Who knows, but whatever, it is a pretty tragic event in many ways.

Not to worry. I’m not wounded by any of this. I am worried about the outcome, not by interweb opinion. :-)

A colleague in my last company got done for speeding and was already up to the limit on points, so he got HR to write a letter explaining that if he lost his licence they would have to dismiss him and that would cause him severe financial hardship. He got a fine and more points, but no ban.

Just to complete this, it's now sorted. The old battery just needed charging from the looks of it. I got green flag out - they tested the new LI battery which came back as 'state of health 64% - bad and replace'.

So I tried the old battery now with a full charge which worked (only after he'd started it off jump leads).

I think this is basically what you guys were saying so thanks for the help :thumb:

Thanks for coming back and letting everyone know the outcome. As Stu says, very worrying for a new and probably not cheap battery. :classic_ohmy:

I think this is a change from 1st Jan.......cos I don't remember hearing of Royal Navy gunboats being sent out to guard British fish before.

In fact I didn't even know that fish had nationalities......shows how little I know doesn't it?

    EpDSh8uWEAYzsx5.thumb.jpg.1852fbb679f40595a7f3da115e69037a.jpg

I guess that irony here is that the bulk of fish caught in UK territorial waters are not popular in the UK, so they are exported to various EU countries. And it'll only take one incident with a French fisherman and they'll blockade the channel ports, which will add to the supply problems being predicted. It also seems that the lessons learned from the Icelandic cod wars has been forgotten.

    C'est la vie.

  16. I had a Trophy 900 a few years back and it was a very capable tourer.....but......they are top heavy, which isn't a problem once you're on the move, but can catch you out when manoeuvring at low speed. If I were you I'd look for something a bit lighter until you've gained some experience.  Have a look at Honda VFRs as well as those mentioned above.
