  1. No budget as yet, but I have low outgoings so I can spend a lot if it's going to be of benefit.

I am a complete noob to picking up a spanner. Im fine checking stuff, but not removing/installing etc.

I need a list of all the tools, and to sit down in front of Ebay and Halfords and price it all up, I imagine I will be gathering a lot of stuff over the coming weeks.

I also imagine me and the swear jar I do not own won't be getting on.

Thank you all for the help, I WILL be asking for more though, please be kind

I got my first Haynes though!

  2. Ok, so if I am going to tinker with my bike and POSSIBLY work up to doing a 16k service, can anybody help identify exactly which tools I will need?

Are there certain brands I should go for? Are cheap tools a good idea or not?

Im going to start small (indicator, oil change, fluids, levers) - if I gain confidence, I might try more advanced stuff.

But I'm scared of doing something wrong and ruining my baby... :|

  3. I live in Carnforth and I am recently returning to riding after a 2 year 4 month break.

I used to be fast

We will see how that comes back...if at all.

I have met up with a fair few riders on here in my glory days (2008-09) and have just recently become active on the forum again.

I look forward to meeting you all sometime.

  4. Thanks guys, today when I was moving her into the back garden (it's VERY tight) - I dropped her

One bent brake lever, broken indicator casing and scuffs on the fairings...

First time I have fully dropped her, last time I dropped her I was sat on top, so it didnt hit the floor as hard.

And I was looking forward to a ride today too :o

    **UPDATE**

    Please upload the manual, thanks.

I have decided to work on it myself over the coming weeks. I used to fix computers, surely that will help?

  5. TC - I am no good at this, I will have to get it done professionally. :(

Though I think I can manage an oil change but that's about it...

Eastanglian Biker - I let it idle to warm up then switch it off and check the level.

I am not sure when the last oil change was, does anybody know the full list of things done on a 16k Service?

  6. Hey,

Well my bike has 15,855 miles on it and I guess she is due the 16k? Does anybody have any idea how much it might be? Should I take it to Honda or will I get ripped off? I did for the last service/Mot and it was a quick turnaround with a loan bike too. I have not ridden this bike since November 2009, but she has been with another man from 2010 until Jan this year who replaced the chain and sprockets and had an MOT done, he put barely any mileage on her though.

I checked the oil level last night during Idling, and it seems a bit low, just over the minimum line.

Should I ride? Or should I ride straight to the dealer for the 16k?

    Thanks for your help.

  7. Thanks, I missed her everyday I was away from her. But I had other things to get done in my life at that time...

I feel good now, but imagine when I first hit an open road again...then I will know not to make that mistake again!

  8. Hey,

I went travelling abroad and sold it before I left to a mates dad. He just sold it back to me, it has MOT til AugI think, he is declaring SORN for me as well. So I just wait for the V5 to come back to me, then I can Tax and Insure.

I had a driving ban which expired but the DR10 endorsement is on my license for 11 years I think. I have a certificate to show I did the rehab course, but my insurance wont be as cheap as it used to be :crybaby:

  9. She is currently living indoors in the hallway, was a bit of a struggle getting her through the front door!

I have been off the road since November 09' and I understand some rules have changed? I have to get tax and insurance and I dont know where to start as yet, anybody know the drill these days?

    Thanks.
