He was technically right but for an advanced driver he seemed awful surprised it happened. It was clear the outside lane closed so they should be merging into his lane. The other driver did not get ahead of him and was never in front of him. Plus if you go for a typical zipper style merging she would be behind him anyway. So yes she had the duty to manage her merge but I think it was foreseeable from his point of view.

So how comfortable is the riding position? I am very interested in one but I am highly unlikely to be able to get to somewhere to try one out before I could order it.

I think the problem is bikes are not easy/cheap anymore. I was desperate for a bike when I was young as a cheap way to get freedom, it never happened for a variety of reasons but I wanted one and the market seemed alive. There were lots of very desirable bikes and they were not expensive to buy or run. I know because I looked. Now for a variety of reasons bikes are expensive to buy and can be incredibly expensive to run. My daughter was quatoed almost half the value of the bike for insurance for her 125. You need to really want to do it for that to make sense.

Weird. I live in Shetland and checked with the Triumph dealer who is based in Aberdeen and they said an independent garage was fine to keep the warranty as I was concerned about a yearly ferry trip for warranty purposes.

I would make theory mandatory before a CBT but your theory test does not time out unless significant changes in the highway code or driving laws. Number of folk at my CBT who seemed totally unaware of the basics of road markings and signs was scary. CBT would be roughly as it is but potentially tiered like the licence so if you were of direct access age perhaps your CBT and L plates stage would allow up to a 500cc? Not sure as I diidn't/don't mind the 125cc stage. Mod 1 would be roughly as it is but again would never time out unless they changed the test structure. Mod 2 would be roughly as it is. Moving up licence bands would only require a Mod2 on the equivalent bike. I fail to see the benefit on proving you cans still do a figure of 8 on a bigger bike. I would potentially make carrying a pillion a separate stage/endorsement as it is significantly different IMHO to potentially require testing in its own right.

If R2 is short for R2DR And Chewie is short for Chewbacca What is Luke short for? A Stormtrooper.

True but I have to admit I would really like to know a definitive answer of if the biker was doing anything wrong or not. I would probably have done the same as a bike in a queue is very vulnerable. If I filter to the front it keeps me safer and reduces the queue by one so surely a win win?

I always thought that just like politicians the sort of person who wants that power is exactly the sort of person who shouldn't have it.

CBT Auto or Manual?
Shasel replied to ChrisBiggsUK's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
This is true for your test Mod 1 and Mod 2 but not for the CBT. For the CBT you can complete on an Auto and then legally ride a manual with L plates. If the OP can pass on a manual then I would suggest that would be better but then I competed CBT on an auto and learned the manual aspect on my own time and it did me no harm. -
I live in Shetland so am very used to windy conditions and have to agree that it is the worst conditions to ride in. Before I had my bike I thought rain would be a big no no but with the right kit it is okay and kind of fun. Heavy winds particularly blustery side winds just feel scary bordering on dangerous. Doesn't help I am on a 125 I guess but yes that moment when the wind grabs you and tries to force a lane change is just not fun.

Excellent thanks will look into the folding one. I probably could store a non folding one but the folding one could be kept out of sight in my garage so makes sense.

I am tempted to buy a trailer to allow me to two my motorbike with my car. Anyone on the forum got any recommedations?

You are meant to use a torque wrench for the axle nut not the adjusters. Don't know how important proper torque setting is as not a mechanic but they aren't that expensive (i think mine cost #80 on Amazon) and seeing it is what holds your wheel on and lets it spin properly I would suggest worth the investment.

This one is more difficult. at 1m you would be getting about 85 dB (at which point ear defenders would be mandatory) but I am guessing you are a closer than 1m and unfortunately the calculations kind of stop working at that point but at 0.5m you are likely in the high 90s.
-
API 521 would say a peak of about 81 dB (so equivalent to a loud radio) at the worst case distance. (API 521 calculates at 30m and I have then adjusted for 2m). I am a bit rusty on the calculations as it has been a while since I have done them but relatively confident I am right. It will be sudden and definitely make you jump but should not cause any lasting damage to your hearing.

There are three kinds of people in this world. Those who can count and those who cant.

Module 1 - members test experiences

I kind of agree but it just feels fake and forced. Slow straight line I get and use a lot. Slalom and figure of 8 I kind of get and certainly makes me confident filtering. U turn just feels overblown to me as you have already demonstrated slow speed control. -
Current obsession is Ren and his album Sick Boi

Module 1 - members test experiences

Had been practising on my 125 a lot prior to my DAS. In two minds as to if this was useful. In some ways I was very comfortable with what I was going to be asked to do but it is much easier to do an a big bike and feels very different. On my 125 the bit that worried me was the U turn. on a bike bike it was the figure of 8. While practising I complained bitterly about the test to anyone who would listen. Felt it seemed a bit pointless. Who in the real world would do a U turn and not put their feet down if they needed to? Looking back I got a lot of value from the test as it was a big confidence booster. Emergency stop on a modern big bike with ABS was an eye opener. Test day I was nervous but confident. The main bit I was worried about was the figure of 8. I almost fluffed it as I was going to slow and the bike started to tip but gave it a bit more power and rescued the situation. After that I was also incredibly focused on not being too slow for the emergency stop. Fat chance of that as I was feeling confident after getting through the slow speed stuff and gave it some beans. As I finished my last emergency stop the last thing my instructor said to me came to mind. Don't forget the life savers after the emergency stop when he tells you you can go out. Passed with no minors. Genuinely nowhere near as bad as I had made it in my head. Actually kind of enjoyed it. -
CBT - Experiences of other Members
Shasel replied to slanty's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
So my CBT experience was interesting. I live in shetland so have to come to the mainland to do anything test related. Decided to do CBT while on holiday visiting relatives. First day I was super nervous and truth be told a little frightened of the bike. Trainers were old school bikers who had next to no patience, didn't really explain anything well about how to control the bike and shouted a lot. That did not help my nerves. I was getting there but not ready to go out on the road so spent more time in the yard trying to cope with gears and clutch. Came away pretty deflated and was ready to give up to be honest. My wife suggested I should try again while it was still fresh. I decided that I would go the automatic route to just get the CBT and then run a 125 for a period and learn on ym own time. Really enjoyed it on the automatic and got my CBT. Almost went the twist and go route I enjoyed it that much. -
Lack of reputable CBT training places

Sorry should say I did mine in four days but I could ride and was confident on a bike at that point. -

I went with CMS Bike School in Aberdeen and they were great. Saw them giving CBT training while I was on my DAS and they seemed good at that too. Prices were competitive in my opinion. You can find them on Facebook and drop them a message. I used them as I live in Shetland so had to go to Aberdeen for my test. -
When did you pass your test and how much was it?
Shasel replied to Geordie Oldie's topic in Motorbike Chat
I can't believe I forgot to add that. It was CMS Bike School in Aberdeen. You can find them on facebook and they were great.
