  4. Just think about biscuits, that usually does it. nothing inoffensive about biscuits (unless it's a garibaldi)
  5. I use to ride my 500 to work (and back), for 4 miles either way. When I did the usual maintenance/cleaning at the weekend I use to drain the breather tube, that had a stopper fitted to prevent leaking. The amount of dirty emulsified crap that came out was ridiculous,and was the result of the engine never reaching a decent temperature, and meant more frequent oil changes. Also possible its one of the reasons the conrod broke
  6. Judging by the colour of that oil I would probably have ran some engine flush through before adding the new oil
  7. I don't know if anyone else has noticed it, but LEDs do not appear to have a visible beam, ie all you see is the focus point. If I turn my spots on they are very bright, but only at the point the light hits the ground, yet if I shine a normal bulbed torch on the same area it also illuminates the surrounding area between torch and road
  8. Someone may come along and put me right, but if you just mask the lens you end up with a daylight only MOT, meaning you could not ride after what is known as "lights on" which is when Street lights are turned on, not just when it's dark
  9. The idea behind the kick up was just to illuminate hedges and other stuff at the nearside as well as the road, I'm not certain its a legal requirement like the RHS

  11. That is why I said a mirror image. the low line on the left needs to be replicated as much as you can on the right
  12. Isn't there any way of creating a mirror image of your first pic? The reason being that's the pattern they look for in the MOT. you don't necessarily need the high beam side to match, but the low beam is critical
  13. Yes, be very careful about headlights. I bought a brand new replacement for my 500,as the lens was plastic and beginning to fog. Headlight came from a reputable dealer so you would expect it to be OK. Err, sadly no. light was really good quality, being all metal, and fitted in place like a glove. I wired it all up, turned it on and the difference was blinding (excuse the pun). It was then I noticed the glaringly obvious, the beam pattern was the wrong way round,like yours. I took it all off, repacked ready to return then contacted the seller. The response? It's CE marked so legal to use, so would not accept its return. I pointed out the CE mark just meant it was made in, and for, the European market where they ride on the wrong side of the road but no joy. Its still stuck on a shelf in my lock-up

I tuned up my 1977ish Honda 125s after deciding to strip the engine to learn about mechanicing I had the inlet and outlet bores gas flowed and polished to a mirror finish, the head was skimmed to lose about 10thou less than standard,the pistons were changed to a different profile with cutouts to accept the valve heads. All in all, it went from 16.5 bhp stock to closer to 28bhp. I never got to find out it's full potential because on my first ever speed run on it, out near Yelverton, due to crazy levels of steering wobble. I was showing an indicated speed of 110mph at 2/3rds throttle. The fitted tyres were Avon Roadrunners, but the speed rating was about 88mph and at the time I don't think there were any out there of the size needed but a higher speed rating so I never tried it again .Incidentally ended crashing on black ice and doing considerable damage to my right knee and by the time I was sorted out and released from hospital the bike had disappeared from where it had been parked up while I was fixed up
  21. My cam chain in the 500 has done close to 130.000 miles yet was perfectly fine when checked during a engine rebuild after busting a con rod
  22. Little bit late to this party but here goes. My CBF600SA had a really poor headlight set up, and when on the way home on back roads from work at night it was pretty horrendous. I looked online and found a HALO set up designed to fit the bike so I bought 2. I fitted one in the dipped beam side and tucked the slave unit in the gap between the frame and front fairing. What a difference!!! The bike has been MOT'd 3 times since, and has passed the beam test each time. Since then I have also fitted 2 LED spots low down, and these cover the area below the output of the HALO, so the road in front is well lit without dazzling oncoming traffic, unless I hit a rise in the road
  23. I know someone that works on/deals with Ford's, and we were talking about engine development, wankel engines etc,and this wet belt fiasco. If he gets vehicles in with this fault they just change the whole engine, as apparently it's cheaper than stripping it to bits to change the belt. According to him it's because of the Euro5 regs on emissions they have no choice but to use wet belts
  24. When I was hit by an idiot that pulled out ,(without looking, he admitted afterwards ) my ankle was trapped between my bike and his wheel arch as I was thrown over his bonnet. The paramedic that attended wanted yo cut my boot off but I wouldn't let him, so undid the zip and pulled it off though admittedly it was rather painful. My boots had a steel bar in the base, armour in the ankle and calf area, reinforced toe area so feet were fairly well protected. When the boot was of the entire area that covered my ankle collapsed over yo one side, as the armour had been destroyed. I suffered major soft tissue damage to my right ankle/foot,which meant two weeks off work and instructions to keep any weight off it,and it's still not perfect today and my accident was in the late 90's. Doctors told me if not for my boots I would have lost my foot
