  1. Did you walk round the place with your eyes shut, hoping not to see all the work it needs doing to it
  2. I also had a near miss, several years back at the tender age of 21. I was learning machine setting on auto lathes, but the company closed down, leaving about 700 out of work. I was lucky in the fact I had seen it coming so had sourced a replacement job for a very small engineering firm, where I was supposed to be continuing my training. Well, I ended up with a right nobhead for a instructor. Now, no-one expects to start at the top in a job, but neither do you expect to be a lackey, which is exactly what I became. Instead of learning the machines, (which, incidentally I was quite capable of setting on my own) I was reduced to sweeping up, correcting his mistakes or fetching him a bacon roll from a local cafe, when he turned up late to work. After one incident where he told me to sweep up before I left work, another colleague had cottoned on to what was going on, told me to go home and he would sort it. Next morning, true to form nob turns up late, then starts ranting the place is a tip, until the colleague said that he did the cleaning last night and if he's got anything to say to say it to him. Oh the look on nobs face was a picture, but it only made matters worse. I reported him to the two owners, and requested they do something about the situation. We both got called to their office, where I gave my account of what was happening, in front of nobhead so he knew what was going on. After I'd finished I was asked to wait outside, and I could hear most of the conversation. The upshot, he's yelling if you do anything he will quit, and they would be in the shit without him, etc. They called me back in and gave their lame excuses as to nothing was going to happen to him so told them both to grow a pair, and I was not going to stay and accept the status quo, so I walked out
  3. @Mawsley cracking album and singer
  4. We all say "it's a job," but it's the job that pays the bills and puts food on the table. A few years back I had a boss with no man management skills whatsoever, (he was sideways promoted from an inspection role to be a supervisor, after they decided to "retire" our former boss). Anyway, we had a few arguments over how I did things, because they didn't meet his interpretation of procedure. Amongst the worse, I ended up in the office because a job I was doing I did right handed, yet to him it was the wrong way, because he showed me how he wanted it done, left handed, which I am not. The managers response? " you know what he's like, just put up with him". I'm sorry, but no, I won't just put up with it, he's an ar*ehole. After a couple of more incidents I actually hit him.it was one punch, with the palm of the hand rather than a fist, and knocked him flying. End result, voluntarily leave or face charges for assault, I chose to leave. Nobody has the right to treat me like a bit of dirt on their shoe, and @Fozzie doesn't deserve the crap he's getting either
  5. Never a truer word was said. They are now doing more work on the town centre pedestrian area, so a lot of it is barricaded, and there are more beggars/homeless on the street. They spent £18 million on the market square, and are now going to spend another £50 million to pimp up the town centre to attract more footfall. The centre is full of mobile phone/vape shops, nail bars and charity shops. Spend the money on improving the roads and pavements instead of more vanity projects
  6. What buoyancy aids did you have on the bike?
  7. Well, the police have been in touch. There is not enough evidence to investigate any further. Now officially billynobikes, I've had to make use of public transport, and what a mess. I can't believe the state of the pot-holed roads the buses run on,and my poor old bones have been battered to bits
  8. Why does this remind me of a toilet seat
  9. I agree with @bud, that's how I ended up with 4 bikes, from a 1980s 125 go a 600 in 2021, plus various others in between. I've generally commuted to work by motorcycle most of my working life, so have mostly always had a backup bike
  10. How much of this cheap stuff, from the likes of shein and temu, is made via the "re-education camps where the minority ethnic people are incarcerated? I mean, how can they make a profit if you can buy something for a couple of quid and free postage? I don't think it's the local pixies ( pinnochio)
  11. My two used to watch barney the purple dinosaur. Even ear plugs didn't help
  12. As most of you probably know, I have a stoma, do have to wear a bag to collect output. In the summer these can become uncomfortable, so this year I thought I would buy some covers. I looked online, as they don't seem to be available elsewhere unless on mail order, and found some fairly decent ones, so duly ordered them, thinking nothing of the postage time. They're made in bloody China.
  13. They can refuse to provide one though
  14. Thank you to all on here. Unless I get them back I think my biking days are over. I'm just over 65, so should be on a pension next December, so have no idea if I'll find another job. A disciplinary hearing against me won't help, despite the fact I did what I did to get work out of the door, despite us not being set-up to do such work, but altering company property is a serious action and my handling of the matter, (Iwas not very diplomatic, to say the least) didn't help, so no glowing references forthcoming. I have a private pension income, and that paid the necessary bills (insurance and tax etc), so I did not have to worry about that. Unfortunately, I lived off that income ,on top of UC, so had not insured the bikes for 14 months, and,as they were on private land were OK not taxed, so there is no chance of a payout. Due to current financial circumstances I can no longer afford to buy another bike, so I'm hanging up/selling all my mc gear,I don't realistically think I'll get them back.

  17. My reasoning was the second bike was a back up in case main bike breaks down and you need to get to work
  18. What really irks me, and that's an understatement, is the managers of the retirement complex where I lived knew about the keys situation because I've been pestering them about how they managed to move two bikes locked together from one part of the car park to a more "out of site" area if they didn't have the keys to the padlocks, and I didn't have the keys to be able to move them off their property and would they find out what has happened to them
  19. Cheers David tavern, reported it to police yesterday evening, don't hold out much hope of getting them back though as they have been gone a while
  20. That's my thinking, but how to prove it. Whoever took them must have had the keys to both chains/padlocks, a well as the ignition keys, else the other residents of the block would have noticed somebody with a angle grinder
