To be honest mate, I was just being polite before. I think this 'new idea' fuc*ing sucks. All money making and, well, the gravy train.

I know we all hate uninsured drivers etc, but why punish everyone? Blanket bombing, that's what it is.

The problem in this country is; it's easier to punish the law abiding than to deal with people who don't give a toss.

No matter what we are told, it all comes back to money. We are told that it is better for us, but do we see any tax rebates?

On another note, this bloody recession, cut loads of Nurses and Paramedics, Fire Brigade, Police and Military, oh and education. What happens with our tax? It goes up. Why?

Yeah, having a separate insurance SORN, so as long as it was shown as SORN on one, then that would work without getting innocently caught out.

I agree with vehicles needing to be insured on public roads etc, but not in your garage just because it has a few months of tax on it.

I didn't know about this new law. What difference does it make to anyone if the vehicle was off public road?

Sounds to me that this is an easy law to fine people with as obviously not everyone is aware of it.

So, to make it clearer for myself, if I were to buy an old bike of ebay with 6 months tax, I get the bike added to my insurance for 1 day just to ride it home, I stick it in my garage to strip down over the next few months. Would I need to SORN it then even though the tax has 6 months on it still?

If so, does anyone know how many days grace you are given? Probably better, in this situation, just to log onto DVLA website as soon as and SORN it on there.

Don't beat yourself up about it mate. You seem grown up enough to accept responsibility. I joined the army in 97, and I can still remember that they are looking for people who learn from mistakes. Like you say, you get to have a year with no choice but to run to work etc. It may turn out to have been a good thing.

Fully synthetic is really expensive for engine oil mate. Semi will do the same job for lots cheaper

It should be more or less fine. Ebay seem to have hoses for £15, like I say not sure if flange or a part of the hose yet, but it looks more or less like it is the flange.

Why do people who have little experience put videos on youtube showing how to do things they can't do.

The basic principles are cleanliness, temperature and secure clamping. And don't blow it. Let it cool naturally.

I would have thought with the amount of heat involved to get this cooling device to the temperature of molten aluminium, it would be best to remove it. I'm not sure how your matrix is constructed but the heat may open other welds.

If it is the joint that has gone, I'd be checking with a professional for the cost before having a go yourself. A skilled welder can do things in 10 mins that a novice amateur may end up botching.

Handy piece of kit though.

If it's copper to steel or steel to steel it might be easier to hard/silver solder the joint.

I hadn't actually watched the video before commenting. That guy doesn't look very competent to me. Looks to me that he has a little DIY experience in copper pipe welding/soldering by his technique. Remember he is using some chunky steel bits there. May be disasterous with a thin oil cooler though.

Various people have said to use bike oil, not car oil as car oil has additives in it which can affect the clutch plates on a bike.

You are opening a can of worms there. I think this question is very similar to religion, it is all views and theory, and will never be properly solved.

I have been using Halfords motorbike oil for the last few years. Costs about £20 for 5 litres.

I often worry and dread my disks needing replacing. A fu*k lot of money for some round bits of steel with holes drilled in. Go to Afghanistan and there's loads of steel things lying around with holes in!

Like already said mate, it's not under high pressure so you could use that weld thing on you tube. I wouldn't bother worrying about it yet till you have had a look at where the problem is. Sods law it will be something else.

I'd say it's probably fine to top up with, but personally, if I were changing the whole lot, I'd buy trusted stuff. It's not like you need to change it much.

Eedjit question now, does this tool let you push the pads in or in & pull them out ?

They are quite thick steel. I just let the pads flop out them push back the pistons direct. The faces are big enough to cover about 3/4 of each piston in a 2 or 4 piston set up, and winds them back in evenly.

Bought this a few years back and it makes life a whole lot easier. Very cheap too and no problems so far -

Well worth it. Have a look on ebay. I paid about a tenner for mine.

Saved me again today when my pad pin covers had seized. This basic bit of kit is a must have for seized screws and torques etc. Well worth the £15 or so, with plenty of spare parts, will last you forever.

Use it before you decide to go through the drilling out process.
