Okay as some of you may know I'm getting my new bike around Christmas / January time

with my test a bit before.

Now been doing some insurance comparisons and have realised I was living in a dream world thinking I could afford to insure a ZX6R or R6.

But I'm now down to two bikes I like.

My dad keeps on telling me to get the bandit, but I am more into the CBR as it has the fairing.

They cost exactly the same to insure, so I thought I would get your opinions.

List the pro's and con's respectively :P

Honda build quality is better.

Booth sound motors.

Bandit - less to damage if you drop it.

Honda better protection.

Honda 'sportier' in looks and position.

Honda, well it's not a Suzuki!

Bandit... No

They are good bikes dont get my wrong but a CBR600F just blows it away in most ways.

Looks

Acceleration

Smoothness

Reliability

Sporty appeal

Better handling

I may be biased... Well I looked at them before I bought but the CBR seems the best.

Everyone knows cbr600f stands for: Completely Balistic Ride with 600cc f**k!!

Also... Its a Honda... Seals the deal

Oooooh look! It's the Honda Owner's Club!

:D

The Suzuki owners club were on their way but they broke down.

Haaaaaaaaaa that's funny!

If it were between a faired bandit and the CBR I think I'd have difficulty deciding as well. Having worked on the 600 Bandit engine in my old GSX600F I can vouch for it being pretty easy to work with and is reliable too. I know Hondas have great build quality (I have one!) but the Bandit is also very very good.

For me it all came down to insurance, but as you don't have that problem I guess it's just looks. To be honest I think you'll be better off with the extra wind protection that the CBR'll give you than a naked Bandit. I could never go back to a naked bike after learning on one and then going straight to faired...shudder! But some people like nekkids.

Have a sit on. Don't compare performance because they're very alike and whichever one you get you're not going to notice a difference at all. Get which one YOU think looks better ;)

I agree :) Well, it stands for that more than the Bandit anyway! Id go for the CBR anyday. Especially as you have been riding the YBR so its not like it's going to be your first bike.

CBR all the way...why even have the YBR as an option? Are you mad?!?!?!?

What is it with dads and bandits?

I would have liked a CBR for my first bike, but to keep the folks happy and insurance down went with a sit up and beg i.e the bandit.

I vote CBR for reason stated above.

Bandit or cbr cant believe your even asking this question unless its an old cbr and a new bandit!

Get the cbr as you already said it seems to be the one you want, oh and just to reinforce the issue if your dad says bandit you deffo get the cbr..you wouldnt take fashion advice from your dad would you

Thanks for the replies, I'm gonna sit on both, have a little ride around etc :D

Maybe show a pic of both to some girls and see which they would rather be on the back of.

What is it with dads and bandits?

I don't know, but its all he ever talks about

and how its a forgiving bike with a great write up which is easy to get parts for.

Looking at 1998 - 2002 CBR's

or a 2003 bandit

Budget of £2000 < not including insurance

Even with a heavy cow like me pillion it still pulls stupidly fast  and is brilliant on motorways, Just trundles nicely even with traffic moving at 80! (again with me pillion..) :thumb:

She THINKS I was going 80 for most of it...

She also THINKS I went to 130mph to get ahead of a pocket of traffic on a slip road....

Of course with me on the controls and eyes on the clocks i can say I was doing a very lawful 70mph

Fine!

I will keep my opinions to myself then!

Good.. DAY!

Your opinion was well noted... :(

Just I dont want the forum hounds to pounce on me again for saying I was speeding even though I would have been at more risk to slow down when the whole motorway was shifting its arse.

I was keeping up with the flow of traffic

Thats what i said! You were centre lane most of the time.. Either move with the traffic or sit in Lorry Zorst dust!

Thought I'd put my thoughts up.

I found the Bandit a little more comfortable although I'd say looks wise I would have to say the CBR outshines it massively.

Cost wise you'd be saving a little with the CBR unless your looking at the older 600 Bandit. The newer Bandits are 650 so bump you up into the next tax bracket.

I've heard the build quality is better on the Hondas but the engine on the Bandit has also been around a while.

My bike broke down last week though....

Good luck deciding - I know which I'd choose if it were just for fun!

I've voted for the cbr,

nothing wrong with bandits! I like the 1200/1250's

Instead of an older 600 bandit why not look at same age fazer 600?

much better bikes!

I like that Fazer, I just can't help but think it looks like an SV650

All the lads around here seem to be riding Gixers from 17... Don't know who pays the insurance

Then when they turn 19 they're on VTR Firestorms

Fazer's are gorgeous (again, i'm biased) but it's a yammy so you know it's guna be as reliable as anything.

Being a spoiled brat helps, least you'll be alive in 20 years

Fazers are good, acceleration wise they are rapid but the cbr600f again top trumps it... but only just with the fazer
