LED indicators - resitor or relay?

Recommended Posts

Right, so I have fitted an aftermarket exhaust and want to tidy up the rear end of my bike and put some new indicators on. I was a the show today and got royally confused by what I need if I want to fit LED indicators! Do I just need a resistor? Or do i need a relay? Or both? And how do i fit that to the indicators?

Because led indicators have a different resistance to standard bulb indicators they flash at too fast a rate. This problem used to be solved by fitting an in series resistor. Nowadays they recommend fitting a different flasher relay. The relay is a direct swap and is bike specific. So you need the right one. It should be an easy swap over.

Explained and examples here.
