Oil issue

This morning when riding to work I noticed that the bike just didn't feel right. It had lost poke and generally didn't feel "normal". I continued without a place to stop or anything.

I forgot about it during the day and then realised the same feeling tonight. On the final approach to my house the oil pressure light went on. F***!

On inspection it looks dry. I only gave it a few minutes to drain a little, but nothing at all is visible - no wonder it felt wrong and the light came on. The weird thing is that it was fine at the weekend. I give it a good inspection and clean every Saturday without fail - it takes most of the afternoon. Knowing I was going to do 600 miles on Sunday/Monday I gave it a really thorough once over and it seemed fine - no sign of oil being low at all.

This is a new bike remember. It had a 600 service at 900 miles which included oil and filter. It is now on about 2400 miles. I haven't touched the oil myself, but it's always looked fine until tonight. There is no sign of a leak since it gets parked in the same spot here and at work every day and no sign of an issue.

All felt fine yesterday. Any thoughts people? Am I missing something obvious? I'm more than a little worried right now.

I think he means, is it smoking heavily, giving out coloured smoke etc. This would tell you if its burning oil or not!

i'd defo phone up the dealers and get them to come out and collect it if the oil is low

Everything looks normal from the exhaust - nothing unusual at all.

I'm calling the dealer in the morning - just looking for some reassurance for now as I am so worried.

Its new isn't it, so dont be!

I cant explain why the oil is low, im sure someone like WF could though!

TBH just be reassured that worst comes to the worst, its not your fault so you wont need to pay for it

I know this may sound silly, and may not help one bit.

But reading through your thread and being able to look over the situation with clarity...it looks like the only option is.... somebody stole your oil.

Lol sorry...it just seems obvious

Indeed it would seem so!

Actually, the oil was there, it was just hiding (thank God). It turns out the battery wasn't charging properly which they thought was causing a bad warning light but now it is and the light is still on. They assure me the oil isn't an issue.

They updated the software and now the speedo is showing random BS numbers (see video below) and it feels like it's running on 3.5 cylinders or something. Intermittently it sounds and feels like it's struggling in the 8-14k range in any gear (especially noticeable down low of course).

I'm taking the bike back on Saturday to have it re-checked.

Oh, and there is now a small scratch on the tank. Great. I even had to buy a new Kawasaki t-shirt because I got shat on my a seagull - it's all working out well today!

Hi sorry to hear about your troubles, its a new bike so don't worry. By law they have to fix it. Keep a record of any visits, receipts etc if you haven't got them then get them. You may need them further down the line if it all goes tits up again and you need to make a claim in court for your losses.

Everything is covered by the warranty, that's not a problem. The issue is purely time, not being able to ride and of course all the money spent on coffee while hanging around. I also ended up buying some shades, a mask and a t-shirt while I was there (managed to get shit on my a pigeon). That's all the money, but it's adding up ;)

I just want my baby back =(

Update: It turns out the issue was a damaged wiring harness. Since all 2010 models seem to have the same design, I wonder if it will be a problem for Kawasaki?
