Fuel tank query

Petrol tank is off the bike, sat on a workbench and is virtually full of fresh fuel. When I turn the tap, petrol pours out. With me so far?

Is it in anyway possible for fuel to not come out when the tank is back on the bike, connected up to the carbs?

Any possible chance an airlock or a split hoses somewhere 'could' prevent fuel getting from the tank to the carbs?

Just after ideas at the mo.

I don't think it has a vacuum pipe, or if it does, I haven't spotted it yet, and it wasn't ever attached to the tank in the first place.

I know the fuel filter in the carb is clean coz its brand new, but I think there is a filter in the tap too. although I'm not certain about that.

The bike seems ok with a full tank, but at anything less than full, it 'appears' to be starved of fuel. :?

Pinty mate, does yours run a fuel pump? I know that with willows FZR is will only gravity feed until half full, so if the fuel pump goes then you have to keep the tank topped up.

Interesting point..... :?

Not sure about that, will have to do some reading up I reckon.

But on the face of it, it would appear to run fine under gravity when full, and then gets starved after not very much mileage.

Certainly sounds a feasable option!

Another thing which makes me think its being starved of fuel is the plug was dry after trying to start it.

Would I be wrong to think that at least 'some' fuel would make the plug slightly wet?

the petrol cap doesn't fit properly. well, it DOES fit, but it doesn't lock.

This isn't my bike btw, lol

Not sure if it makes a sucking sound or not.

And breather pipes what?

Sorry, lost track after "good blow"
