davefly76 Posted July 14, 2010 Share Posted July 14, 2010 any ideas of how this could have happened, or what damage may have been done?it happened on the way to the grand prix on friday. i was gunning it past a couple of cars and a lorry on a fairly long straight-ish single carriageway. i noticed a van up ahead and then spotted that the lane i was overtaking in was coned off and there were temporary traffic lights which were just turning red so the van was braking. i had to slam on the anchors and was down shifting when i put it in first and the revs just flew up! i stopped safely and the engine was running fine but when i pulled away again i could hear a clonking sound. it went away as the revs rose and it changes up and down gears with no problems. i carried on my journey and every time i pull away, from standstill or rolling, i get the same clunking noise untill the revs rise. i've looked around and i can't see anything obviously loose but the chain is extremely slack now. i asked someone to watch me pull away slowly and he said the chain was bouncing around.just looking for a bit of info as to how this could have happened and if it would have caused any other damage, i'm a noob to this biking malarky! Guest Hodgy Posted July 14, 2010 Share Posted July 14, 2010 I'd carefully check all the links in the chain for damage, and both sprockets for damaged / missing teeth, just in case, if everything checks out ok, then adjust the chain and keep your eye on it for the next few hundred miles just to be on the safe side Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
