Alright, after reading the topic about iridium spark plugs, I decided to give it a go, after all, what harm can it do? Bought the plug for £9, @ my dealers, got home, removed the original one, and replaced with the new iridium one. Thought to myself *Job's a good'n* and took it onto the drive for a test....

Normaly my bike (Gilera DNA GP Experience 50cc) would pull strongly @ 50mph... So I started her up, (everything perfect so far) and accelerated. She got to 20mph, then saunted upto 30, pulling 36mph max. :?

My question is what's gone wrong? Is it that I have not tightened the spark plug up enough, and it's loosing pressure when firing? (screwed in with fingers until it bit hard, then put in 1/4 turn with the tool, tightening it up.)

Please help. :crybaby:

Wayyyyy too loose

Take it out and start again, Use a socket and a wrench and tighten it until it goes tight. Then loosen it slightly and then give it half a turn. Release a quarter, apply half a turn. That is what I do and it yields the right results. As it is the plug isn't in far enough so it wont be firing properly.

Also check the gap and carefully change it if needed :thumb:

Thanks Fozzie. Sorry for the essay of a question. :/ I thought it was in tight... my bad. I'll re-do it tommorow. The gaps, perfect (tested it). Won't have done any damage will it? (driven 6 miles with it like this, @ 7pm tongiht.)

Thankyou.

hehehe @ VFR800. I mentioned the time, as it was bloody cold yesterday afternoon here, so if any damage had of been caused it would hopefully have been minimal.

Dex, my spark plugs are the same as yours, (washer'ed) but like i've said the bike has lost a LOT of power, and i'm pretty sure that going from a stock plug, to a iridium, isn't ment to make it lose any power, and nothing like this, so i'm guessing/hoping it's the tightness.

I'll post back soon with outcome of tinkering time.

Many thanks.

Urgh.. I tightened it up a bit (added a quarter turn) stook her out and she had gained about 6 mph. (not much but at least its going up) I added a bit more (being cautious not to go too tight) but I havnt taken her out again yet, as once I had made this adjustment, the heavens opened...typical. Anyway, if this dosn't improve it upto and above what it was origianyl then i'll do exactly what fozzie says, and if that fails the dealers going to have a argumentative customer to deal with.

The cap is definatly on correcty. Thankyou for all your replies, Bullet.
