donhuzayfa Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Recently my bike was stolen - fairings damaged, and my ignition bashed out (so they could hotwire it)Fixed the fairings for just under 400 quidnow the ignition would cost me another 100 because i have to buy the whole set, and my bike (kymco quannon 125) only started production in 08) so no used spare parts just yet,So being clever, I bought a cyclone alarm system off ebay for 30 quid and this can remote start the bike,so Ive wired everything but canNOT identify what each ignition wire does or is.THE IGNITION WIRES: RED, (Which I presume is the 12v supply) GREEN, (presumed earth)BLACK, (dont know) STRIPY BLACK AND WHITE (presumed to be an ignition kill switch)What i cant understand is the flimsy universal wiring diagram, so the wires that the alarm/starter consume off:2 wires which are earth (pink and grey), and act as kill switch for engine,Brown: ignition onblack: earthso somehow these wires wire up to the ignition. so farr ive managed to blow the fuse, please feel free to ask a question, and feel free to help before i pay the auto electrician another 60 quid, PS THE BIKE COST ME 600 QUID SO IM NOT BEING STINGY OR NYTHING, ITS JUST I DONT WANT TO SPEND MORE THAN THE BIKE FIXING IT, Quote
rennie Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 the normal colour convention does not applyto bike looms!that means that red could be earth! green could be live etc.in the absence of a drawing you need a volt meter/testerto find out what's what. Quote
donhuzayfa Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 ok i have my dads 200 pound volt meter, so what do i test for?? Quote
rennie Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 ok! this is hard to explain put the meter on continuity(the ohms sign)touch the leads together, it will either buzzor read 0 or both.now put one lead onto a known good earth and leave it there.with the other lead touch the bare ends of each of the wiresin turn. the 1 that buzzes/reads 0 is the earth wire. Quote
rennie Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 ok, now put meter onto DC Volts (0 to 30V)put black test lead onto neg terminal of battery or known good earth.touch other test lead onto bare ends of wires and measure voltages.if you find 12v operate switch and see if voltage is switched or permanent.do all that and get back to us Quote
donhuzayfa Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 THANKS!!!, NOW LOCAED THE EARTH AND POSITIVE, Quote
rennie Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 just out of interest what colour's what? Quote
donhuzayfa Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 Ok, so red IS posotive 12v, and green is earth, based on that black and white is ignition kill, the black is ignition on...and ive connected some wires together, namely red and black, through a connector on to the brown wire which starts everything up, so the motorbike now starts but wont switch off through the remote, to get around this I just press the ignition kill switch, is it ok to keep using the ignition kill switch to switch it off or is that for emergency use only?? Quote
Susieque Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Rennie says he doesn't think it will do any harm to use the kill switch Quote
donhuzayfa Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 OK just to say thanks to everyone who has helped... Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 if it is only turning engine off through kill switch are the rest of the electrics off as well or do the indicators lights horn etc still work when engine has stopped? Quote
