Ive got loads of "free play" on my clutch lever, is it the wee wheelie thing next to the lever i use to adjust? sure i´ll botch it :(

Yes mate that will adjust the amount of freeplay before the clutch bites.

Nice one and well done you. No reason why anyone can't do their own maintenance. Buy yerself a Haynes manual for your bike and if you can't understand the instructions, just ask on here. We are happy to help.

I have a question on this topic toooooooo.

I just adjusted my clutch using the above method.

At first i was turning it towards me, but i soon figured that was making the clutch looser and the biting point even closer to the handle bars.

So i started to turn it the other way.... and it got tighter and tigher, now my biting point is about half way between the handle bars and the clutches resting position.

I wanted to turn it more and make it tigher.... but i was scared the thing your twisting would pop out.

How far will they actually come out before it pops out?

Depends with different levers. Best way to test is to keep bringing it out. It's not har d puttign it back in if it falls out. and remember you should also have one above where the cable meets the clutch housing.

there should be a slot in the front of the housing where the cable slots through you should be able to see how much adjustment is left :)
