bassmaster Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Bit of a strange question but... Just got round to buying myself proper goretex/textile bike trousers and would like to know if, apart from a clean pair of boxers are you supposed to wear jeans underneath as well? Sent from my HTC Desire Quote
Boothy Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 If I am going to college then I wear jeans underneath.. if I am just riding then I just wear boxers. Quote
TC Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Work uniform or normal clothes - textilesMan City shorts (always) - Leathers Quote
chiz Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I wear either; EDZ one-piece; http://www.edz.biz/bike/Product_pages/AllSeasonbaselayerOr HG 3D; http://www.hein-gericke.de/bekleidung/underwear/hein-gericke-seamless-3d-wasche-set-16792.html (Couldn't find it on the UK site) Quote
Remy Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 In hot weather I just wear knickers under biking trousers (leather or textile) - would be too hot otherwise. In colder weather would wear thermal long johns as well. Quote
chiz Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I find that base layer type stuff is more comfortable, as opposed to sweating into my jacket/trousers.I always wear something between my skin and my bike gear, including liner gloves and neck tube. Quote
bassmaster Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 Excellent. I'll get myself some base layers I think. I did get a tad hot trying the trousers on today. Thanks for your help everyone. Quote

As I said, I find base layers work for me, experiment with different combinations. There's no harm in having a set or two for the winter anyway. Quote
Sparky65 Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I have loads of running gear and technical tops, ones that wick the sweat, are brilliant. I have four from Decathlon which work really well and at £5.99 each they're well worth it.http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/deefuz-1000-t-shirt-58814250/Same goes for their shorts to wear under textiles in summer or their running tights to wear in winter.http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/isolate-essential-tights-129967737/ Quote

I mountain bike, hill walk and mountaineer, all of which need a decent base layer to go on top of technical layers. I also built up quite a collection during my time in the Army and I wear base layers in the winter where I'm working now, so I've got quite a selection to choose from. Quote
Sparky65 Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 In warmer weather I like to wear this under my leathers too .......http://www.lasenza.co.uk/level3.aspx?d= ... g=SS311_62But it does bunch up round my waist a bit.. I have that same problem - I hope to god I never have an off and someone has to undress me Quote
Ash Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 If I'm going for a blast on a hot day and I'm wearing my 1 piece leathers, I tend not to wear anything at all underneath. Quote
Paul Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Anyway, moving on! Microfibre boxer shorts are the best to wear under leathers. I got some at the NEC bike show last year and they really are great. Quote
Lumor_uk Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Wearing summer base layers to wick the sweat away from my skin, if I don't wear a base layer it wicks straight onto my textiles making them stink after a week of commuting. Easier to wash base layers (no conditioner allowed) than re-waterproofing the textiles. Quote
