Just put a K&N air filter in, did not do anything else as I suspected this would happen... under revs it stutters and I am presuming this is because it is having fuelling problems, yet I cannot seem to find the mixture screw :(

You will probably need bigger main jets as well as air screws about 1/2 to 1 turn further open. Take carbs off to find airscrews or use a mirror?

All sounds to complicated to me...

I think I have 2 choices here. Bearing in mind that the bike is restricted the K&N filter is a bit pointless and only got them as there was a deal with that and a K&N oil filter..

Option Number 1: Finish servicing the bike and then take it to CMC at clay cross and ask them to setup the carbs.

Option Number 2: Just buy a Stock Suzuki air filter.

The mixture screw only adjusts the mixture at small throttle openings

You'll need to change the main jets to correct the rest

or switch back to a stock air filter

Fred said what I said! Don't say you can't understand an answer, coz that makes you sound thick and you're not!!!

If you fit aftermarket filters that flow more air, you will need more fuel. Not just airscrew adjustment, bigger main jets required. Come on Boothy, it ain't that complicated!!!

Ok so what do I need and how much will it cost? Would balancing the carbs make any difference?

Posted

no balancing carbs wont make a blind bit of difference to how its fueling

although it wont hurt to do them as it will run a tad smoother on tick over and low revs

personally i would spend a bit on getting it set up on a dyno it would cost you up to £200 and thats all in

the bike will be set up with the air filter and end can if you have one and will run 10 times better and have a really smooth power delivery all the way through the rev range

and it takes the guess work out

if you fit bigger jets you could just end up masking a problem ie the jets might not be big enough but make it run better but it still lean which could in the long run hole a piston and dead motor

or you could just be throwing loads of fuel in if the jet is too big also the needles might need adjusting too

all this is way too complicated just by guessing and riding

Just out of interest...if its restricted, why are you fitting "performance parts" ? It seems like a waste of £££ to me mate. Keep it stock and keep the £ in the back pocket for the service or your next bike. Just my humble opinion.

wooooaaaaaa

didnt relise it was restricted!!!

forget everything everyone has said and stick a stock filter in you are wasting your time

Once you get the bike de-restricted, if you need a hand with the carbs give me a shout. I'm only in bolsover.

good boy

now save that K&N and some money too and when derestriction comes off get it back in and set up properly and you will love it :thumb:

iridum spark plugs?

i bet you used to read Max Power didn't you..

just keep it stock..restricted its not even running the best in can in stock why upset it with hotter plugs and stuff?

Personally i would've suggested contacting K&N to find out what size jets etc they specify "go" with their "performance" air filter (they designed it for the bike after all so they better at least know that much!)

But because you're restricted i wouldn't bother doing that - just pop a cheap pattern filter in, and make sure that everything responsible for the fuel and air mix is undamaged and unclogged (e.g. carbs, properly sealed airbox, rubbers etc). And then it *should* be fine. And learn the underlying lesson in this - don't mess with a bike's fuel and air mixture unless you know what you're doing!
