TC Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Thoughts go out to his family and friends,Me and Roy were there. it was a bad crash but the circuit is too narrow. The circuit was closed for about an hour and a half. Quote
bex Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 i forgot to say, my classmate is Ben's mechanic he will be sad today. TC its not that its to narrow, its that they are all learning and out to impress the big teams, they all want the same sq ft of tarmac. hundreds of races are held there and most dont end up in an accident, let alone one this sad. Am sorry but it is too narrow and tbh most of the british circuits that bsb use have been outgrown by the bikes.RIP all condolences to families and friends! Quote

My personal opinion is this isnt the track, the accident happend on the exit to a left right set of corners at the bottom of the mountain. It is a shame the accident happened in this location, it could have just as easily happened at the goose neck, or devils elbow at Mallory or any other chicane on the calendar. I say unfortunate because people will immediatly slate Cadwell and 'the mountain' as reason for the incident.Deaths in circuit racing are rare, but they do happen, and usually when a rider is struck by another bike, such as the Moto 2 accident last season and this one. It is always tragic when someone dies, but even if the track was 500m wide this would still have happened. Racers all want to be on the same bit of tarmac about half a meter or less wide, so if a rider falls off right in front of another one there is no time take avoiding action so track width is irrelevant, run off is irrelevant. We all want nice close racing, which is what we get, unfortunatly close racing means vehicles travelling fast close to each other with little or no time to react to an accident.RIP fella, enjoy those clear tracks up there Quote
Guest philgale Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I seen the video on youtube and its not good, the problem is when you come off at the top of the mountain nobody can see you there until its too late. having ridden the track it is very narrow and tough to overtake from the bottom of the mountain all the way to the start finish straight.one of the trainers at work, her brother was one of the guys who hit ben and was very good mates with him. bad times and something we all wish never happens but its one of those things.
