Hi guys

wondering if any of you have some ideas for my son Jack. He has a honda cb 125 cdj 1988. after renewing his exhaust recently and enjoying being back on the road again for a couple of weeks he took it out for a run and is sort of went pop hiss....:-(

Jack says

i got it back home after riding it for a bit and then pushed for a while as it was under powered. when i got back and started it up again it popped and spluttered oil out of the crank shaft cover gasket.

Any advice would be welcome

thanks.

oooohhhh...that's a tough one to diagnose......could be piston rings gone allowing pressure in the crankcase (should have a crankcase breather anyway....but could be blocked). Main bearings and oil seals gone.....does it knock when it runs or a rumble coming from the bottom end of the engine?

Sounds like it'll need an engine strip to investigate to me.

I'll leave it for some of the other guys on here to have a think and see if they can come up with anything else that could do that.

Good Luck,

Bob

Why don't you post your location (general location), there may be someone on here local to you that could take a look.

Megawatt should be online at some point - he's normally got some good ideas.

Does sound like loss of compression

Yeah...there's a lot of guys on here that are real useful with these sort of problems......East Anglian Biker, Colin the Bear, Megawatt, Ingah, Fozzie, .........the list is almost endless...... 8-)

It does sound like some sort of compression issue!

stick your location in your profile

maybe someone could come and have a look.

It could be almost anything!

I cant for the life of me find the way to add our location to the profile. we are in Pembroke West Wales. thank you soo much for trying to help...:-)

Yeah, what they all said, some sort of compression issue. Not sure what the CDJ means? Could it be CDI , ignition system. If it's a four stroke, probably a damaged piston ring or blocked breather or both. If a two stroke, could be a damaged disc valve or piston?

yep its a 4 stroke mega so got to agree with you and all the others sounds like it could be a cylinder head off job.but to the op before you go stirpping the engine down do a compression test on it easiest way without a gauge is remove spark plug and place your thumb over the hole as you turn the engine over it should try and blow your thumb off the plug hole, if it doesnt then its going to be engine strip down ,try and let us know how it goes

If you can't fix it yerself, price up getting a garage to do it and when you recover    , put it in the post and I'll do it for ya? Or buy another engine?

big thanks guys ..Jack only just got in from work but has an early finish tomorrow and will try to blow his thumb off...he he he will report back..:-)
