donhuzayfa Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I need to sort my rusty downpipes, how do I sort it? Quote
Stu Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 first of all post in the right section moved to pitstop remove them clean them up with a wire brush and paint them with exhaust paint available from halfords Quote
mealexme Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 +1, apart from the halfords stuff. I tried it and it flaked off within a few minutes. Also instead of wire wool, if there is lots of rust then you can get drill bits that have wire wool on which saves a LOT of time. (I literally spent two whole days with wire wool on mine and it did hardly anything) Although never use wire wool on any chrome parts. If you just have a little bit of surface rust on chrome then use some tin foil (kitchen foil/wrappings from pies etc)Also Kurust is a good product for getting rid of rust Quote
Stu Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 ive used the halfords one loads of times you have to prep the surface properly first and follow the instructions too ive never had a problem with it although by the end of the year it could have been done with been painted again but keeps the worst away Quote
argentum40 Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 alot of the 2 stroke lads use black BBQ paint... not used it myself but some of em are pretty choosy about what they use on their machines Quote

Boro Jake Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 If you want a good finish sand the exhaust down to the bare metal with a power drill then heat it up to 30 degrees c and apply the paint wait a few hours and put it back on the bike and let it run to warm up.The paint will flake off due to poor preperation Quote
