tryme Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 hi guys im doing my mod 1 on the 6th of nov. its getting closer and closer and im getting more nervous and giving it more thought.on the hazard avoidance i know the speeds you have to do etc but was just wondering do you have to stop IN the cones when you stop (front tyre in them) or do you just stop when the examainer says so? Quote
fredc Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 The are 4 blue cones forming a box Stop with your front wheel inside the box Quote
tryme Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 is that on the hazard avoidance/swerve test or just the controlled stop? Quote
Throttled Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 I am sure you have to stop in a box for some parts of the test, but not the emergency stop. What ever happens the examiner has a big diagram of the test route and will take time to explain exactly what they want you to do. Quote
mealexme Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 on the controlled stop you have to stop within the cones and the emergency stop the nearest cones are taken away and you have to stop before the remaining cones. i believe after the swerve test you have to do the controlled stop. i remember i started slowing down before the speed trap so had to do it again lol Quote
tryme Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 guess ill find out when i do my training for it the day before and on the day itself..thanks guys Quote
keith565 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 on the swerve avoidance you have to stop with your front wheel in the box made up of 4 blue cones. on the emergency stop you have to stop as quickly as possible without loosing control of the bike. if you travel to far on the emergency stop you will fail. Silverspring Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I did my mod 1 training just over a week ago so I can confirm that after the swerve test you do not need to stop in the blue box but you do need to pass through them if you haven't come to a stop. It's basically to show you have gone from the swerve back onto the original line of travel. In the controlled test you have to stop with your front wheel in the blue box.In the emergency stop you need to stop as quickly as possible, not got anything to do with the blue box! tryme Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 thank you guys definately very informative Quote
Boro Jake Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 you stop inside the blue cones, he failed me for making this mistake Quote
tryme Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 I think that is so harsh but still I think I can do it Quote
OhJay Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 At Farnborough they move the right hand pair of the blue cones so you've only got the 2 cones left and the wording is something along the lines of "Near or in the vicinity of...."If you're unsure, ask! "Do you want me to stop in the box?" will then get you a definitive "yes" or "stop before the box" and then you know what you're expected to do! Quote
OhJay Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 OK, on mine was different to the other half's. He picked up the front 2 cones of the blue box and put them to the back and told me to stop with my bike between the 2 remaining cones.I was able to ask specifically "any part of the bike, not necessarily the front wheel" and got clarification. tryme Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 another question on mod 1...when taking the bike on and off the stand does it have to be centre stand or can it be kick stand? im so nervous thinking about this already i want this so bad lol Quote
Throttled Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I don't think it matters. I would do which is easier for you and are less likely to muck up. Quote
tryme Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 that would be the kick stand then lol Quote
randomobject Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 the bike i did mod 1 on didnt have a centre stand so i cant see that being a problem Quote
Silverspring Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I was told that the instructor will tell you which stand to use on the day so best to have a wee practise with both. So long as you keep control of the bike it doesn't matter if you take a few attempts to get it on the centre stand! Quote
OhJay Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I was told side stand and to put the stand down before you get off.Neutral > switch bike off (so you don't kick it into gear while putting the stand down) > Side stand down > shoulder checks > get off. Quote
