mod 1 restricted license

hi


heres the plan. sort of. I did the CBT in September 2010 so it'll run out in 2012. I had a 125cc for a while and rode it daily for 6 months before selling it. Ive got the bug again but this time want to do the test. i think a restricted license would be fine for me, quite happy to potter about on a 400cc for a couple of years im sure they'll fly by.


So ive been looking at websites of my local companys and heres what im thinking.


8 hour day on a 125cc then mod 1 test. this way i wont need to buy a bike before the day as im hoping my past experience should be good enough for the manouvers..... 8 hours riding before hand should get me up to scratch for them?!


in the summer id do another 8 hours on a 125cc followed by the mod 2 test.... again thinking that aa full day of riding should help me iron out any problems.


is that a realistic target? id hate to fork out for a 125cc when id want to get a 400cc after the test, and at least id have the option of not getting a bike till later should money be an issue.


any thoughts on that??

Sounds like reasonable plan, you may need/want to take more lessons before each test, depending on your ability/confidence, or the instructors confidence in you. But then again 8 hours may be a lot more than you need, some people on here went to pass their tests first try without a single lesson, mealexme did this a week or so ago. Good luck with it at any rate! :thumb:

How old are you? If you're over 22 I wouldn't bother with the restricted licence and just go for the full fat version. There's nothing wrong with you then getting a 400 if that's what you fancy but at least it will give you the option of getting something bigger when you want to.

ok did my restricted licence within 4 months i had no lesssons for the mo1 or mod2 i bought a 125 and learnt by myself from the internet and u tube all the info is out there i did have a motor bike in my earlier days of life but never got around to do my test

the mod1 is not as bad as some say it is if you have had a bike before it might be worth you just puting in for your mod1 if you fail

its only cost £15.50 if you pass you could save£150

few months ago ;) but had been riding for almost two years without and gaps. And some people can have lessons and not pass, so it really does depend.

I would say for mod1 if you are confident enough 8 hours should be ok, but mod2 personally I dont think 8 hours would be enough. How long ago was it that you last rode a bike then? Over a year ago? If so, have a look at all the videos on youtube and threads on the forum but I think 8 hours is a bit short

road bikes in my youth never bovered to take a test then 20 years later got a 125 and did the ol mod 1 and 2 with no lessons


It was not without its mishaps but Cost me very little money and went out and bought a 600cc (restricted)


No regrets, it was right for me and you should do what is right for you ( not what people think you should do )


Some people like the DAS some people like the restricted route :cheers:

couldn't agree more I did the same as you and have a vstrom 650 - a friend took a week off to do his das - he passed and last week we went out for a ride at lunchtime he has a beautiful fireblade - I had to pull over after 15 minutes as I couldn't watch him cornering any longer - no craft at speed dangerously snatching the breaks in to corners then ridiculously racing away on straight - to be fair the school did recommend he do some extra training but I feel my several months on a 125 prepared me for the usual hazards and built my cornering skills - my friend won't be riding much in the winter and is doing the bikesafe day with me in March I hope he keeps upright until then: I guess I think everyone is different
