dimmers Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Just looking through a bike mag the other day, and there was a review of 'premium' textile bike gear. Now i can see why some of this stuff would be more expensive than what i wear (Gortex being used, etc), but a £1000 for a textile jacket seems a little extreme to me? Take this jacket for example: Rukka Arma-S Jacket (just Google it).can someone please help me see the reason behind this price tag? Surely there can't be much difference between this and a jacket for say £200/300?for that price, i'd expect it to be better in abrasion resistance than leather, more waterproof than my own skin! and with the guarantee that if i have an off it will sprout wings and fly me to safety!!! Throttled Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Ride magazine was it? I saw it too and was taken a back by the prices. I can't see the extra value in them. Quote

I can't see the extra value in them.yes it was that magazine, but i thought i better stop mentioning it as someone will think i'm working for them!i just couldn't believe the price of that jacket! i wouldn't even spend that much on a set of two piece leathers.maybe i'm missing something though, hopefully someone has a set and they can tell me how amazing they are? chiz Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I quite like the Rukka stuff but a lot of the 'vanish-up-their-own-arse' BMW cliques wear it simply because it's so expensive. They'll be disappointed to hear that HG's top suit, the Master V (£1400 complete) wipes the floor with every Rukka suit, but it doesn't have RUKKA in big writing across the back so they'll never buy it. Throttled Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Well my stylish Italian jacket and trousers has survived two tumbles totally unscathed, it keeps me cool in summer, warm in winter has lots of pockets but it not fully waterproof. It was £114.Because of that I could never justify buying one the suits reviewed in the magazine. I think next month they are doing cheaper stuff. Quote
chiz Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Yeah, they're testing the cheaper ones next month, which will be interesting to compare against the pricey one's. Quote
Guest Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 got rukka gear and love it. however i miss not having vents in it during the summer. The cool black system doesnt really work that well! Quality of it compared to my Hein Gericke gear is a league above. Quote
cruz Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Ref the Rukka Arma-S Jacket, just googled it.It appears to have a lot of top end tech stuff in its manufacture ie gortex and the waterproof closure. But I would think that the CE approval for PPE would be the thing that would justify the cost.Few if any other motorcycle clothing will have this, this is the only one I know of and I am sure the others would be shouting it from the rooftops if they did.that said I will not pay more for my coat than I did for my bike Quote
Mawsley Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 can someone please help me see the reason behind this price tag? Surely there can't be much difference between this and a jacket for say £200/300? Some people love to throw away money ostentatiously. Quote
Guest Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 got smashed off and my old gear held up really well, but was cut off. Insurance coughed up alot more than expected for the bike gear, so decided to treat myself. the rukka gear came highly recomeneded, and i got a cracking deal, got nothing to do with loads of money lol. I have to say I really like my rukka gear other than the lack of vents. Ive got the Armadillo range, so far its been 100% waterproof as you would expect. Quote
Nogin Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 My winter jacket cost me £20 second hand off ebay and is only just coming to the end of its life after being used every day for 5 years.I appreciate some people will call me a tight git, but I simply do not have the money to spend £100's on kit.The jacket is coming to the end of its life so I'm not sure should I repair or replace. Nogin Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Going to be repaired, couple of pockets torn and the velcro on the collar has had it. However mrs Nogin will be repairing it, just cannot afford another jacket unless I go back to Ebay! Quote
