Guest Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Evening, I am considering buying a 1998 CBR 600f from a friend. The bike is in mint condition but has not been turned over for about a year. Is this a risky buy or with a full service and a new battery would it be ok??? Quote

If he is a mate, borrow a battery from another bike and swap it to make sure it runs before buying, I am sure he wont mind. Quote
Guest Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Would it not be better replacing the oil and plugs before starting it after so long? Quote
Tango Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Yeah....I'd replace plugs, oil, filter and fuel before trying to run it. Probably just put a little squirt of oil down the barrels while the plugs are out and turn the engine over slowly by hand.Buying any bike is a risk, so it's hard to give any meaningful advice here. Was the bike kept in a garage or outside during its layoff? There could be other stuff that needs attention too after that period of time: Brake callipers, fork seals, chain, etc.........but a regularly used bike could need attention to those things too... fullscreenaging Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Also tyres can be damaged if stood on the same part for long enough.Hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised. Pretty much bomb proof bikes imoWelcome in. Quote
