Guest Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Hey,I'm planning to do my CBT this year, but beforehand i'd like to do some background reading on Bikes, i.e. different engine layouts etc. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any books that'll help me understand what i'm getting myself into/onto!Thanks everybody!Kate. rennie Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 hello and welcome to TMBF why not say hello in the newbie's section? and please put your location in your profile There's a lot of info in our CBT/training section abouthow to pass your tests etc. But not much about how bikesactually work! Most people don't care as long as they go whenthey want them to If you've got any specific questions ask away Quote
Guest Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Hi! Thanks a lot,I couldn't remember the name of those Manuals but i've had a look on Amazon and a couple look really good, in the meantime i think i'll have a good old nose on Wikipedia.Would you guys recommend a Direct Access course for myself or do you reckon i should stick to the CBT for now? I've heard varying bits of advice, personally i'm leaning towards going straight for a direct access. Thank you! Quote
davefly76 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I've got this book..http://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorcycle-Owne ... 616&sr=8-7Its a bit basic in terms of content for me but its still a nice little book. If you're a complete novice and don't know the difference between a top yoke and an egg yolk then it's probably ideal. Quote
whitedevil Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Someone on another forum was saying how good this washttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorcycle-Basi ... 061&sr=8-1several other members agreed too.I also hear alot of good things about Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance, but i think its more philosophy than mechanics. bex Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 if you google tony foale you will find his work on bikes, he is technical without being unreadable, we use him in uni. he will basically give you nearly anything going Quote
Tango Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Direct Access would depend on your age.....but I guess you know this already.... Quote
