Karimura Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Hi, just thought id post here before i pop in to garage on the weekend, my bike can do 66mph, and on a easy straigh line (know as quarter mile strip near me), goes quick through gears (well quick for a cg i guess, or compared to now anyway)last 5/6 days i've fount out that my gears are useless after 3rd as it just sits at 55mph, I thought it was just my imagination but trying to go faster didnt do anything.Goes fine to 30mph, anything after just takes ages, i went to highest gear and nothing just straight at 55..Is it my engine or clutch or something? as sometimes my gears get stuck going through net's from 1 to 2, maybe just me as i'm newbie but did read about it in other threads that were previous made.CHEERS BUDDIIES Quote
Tango Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Maybe your throttle cable has stretched or is getting stuck....so the throttle is not opening fully..... Quote
CheshireCBR Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Not too up on small bikes anymore but is it a 2 stroke or 4stroke? If it is a 2stroke then the exhort might be coked up and restricting the air flow out hence reducing the speed, i had it on a bike many moons ago Quote
Colin the Bear Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Please add following to bikeSteep downhill inclineStormforce tailwind. That should sort it. I've heard of a cg doing 90 but that was over a cliff Quote
GazW Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Check the two lines match on your throttle linkage where it joins the carb, (throttle open iirc) clean the air filter, check the plug (colour and gap, it should be a nice light brown, if it's wet your running rich if it's White and blistered your running lean) check the valve clearences (google the tolerances, you need a feeler gauge) and if it's points (pre 97) check the timing... mealexme Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 cant hurt to change the oil/sparks/chain etc, just give it a service, it may help, and if it doesnt then the more often a service is done, the better. Quote
Karimura Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Cheers guys, yeah fount it was just a rattling exhaust, something inside is rattling, but I had no oil left, so changed that. At weekend ona do some work and clean it out get it nice and healthy again Thanks for the replies! Quote
XmisterIS Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Cheers guys, yeah fount it was just a rattling exhaust, something inside is rattling, but I had no oil left, so changed that. At weekend ona do some work and clean it out get it nice and healthy again Thanks for the replies! No oil = rapidly knackered engine!! Check it regularly and keep it topped up if needs be. Change it regularly too. Your engine will thank you for it!! The best way to check the oil level if you have no centre stand (like me) is to sit on the bike on a flat and level surface in good light and use an inspection mirror to look at the oil window. Quote
