iiisecondcreep Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Further to my other thread about my broken exhaust, my next question is- having discovered that the full length of the exhaust and not just the end can is not standard- how do I find out what end cans will fit my exhaust? The standard for my bike is a 3 bolt fitting, mine is 4.Is the 4 bolt fitting standard? Or will it be different for all bikes with a 4 bolt exhausts? If different, what measurements do I need to check? Apparently the newer gsxrs have a 4bolt fitting so I am hoping that maybe a standard newer one might fit.Having spent some time searching through ebay it seems that 99% of listings only say what bike the exaust will fit and not what type of fitting it has, and very few show the exhaust from any other angle than side on so its hard to even be able to tell if its 3 or 4 bolt without asking.Ta, Gayle Quote
Stu Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 What bike is it? And you can get a new sleeve put on the old cracked one ask megawatt he should be able to sort it Quote
iiisecondcreep Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 What bike is it? And you can get a new sleeve put on the old cracked one ask megawatt he should be able to sort it '98 gsxr 600, new sleeve option was mentioned on original thread. Cost is an issue so I am trying to consider all possible options hence this new thread to find out what exhausts will fit as I might be able to get a cheap standard exhaust for another bike. Quote
Stu Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Measure between the bolt centres and measure the inlet on the exhaust How come you have a 4 bolt on yours and not the 3 what is the system off do you know? You could always keep an eye out for a full standard system for your bike If you get me the measurements I can check it against my exhaust for you mine is 4 bolt and they are all the same for tls, tlr, sv1000 and hayabusa Quote
Tango Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 The trouble is that an exhaust designed for another bike may mess up your fuelling.....which may have already been played with for your current exhaust. Personally I think a Stainless sleeve to go on your current exhaust may be the best option. What you may save with an exhaust for another bike may get eaten up with remapping your injection or rejetting the carbs depending on what your bikes setup is. And if your bike is Carb, even rejetting it for a non-standard exhaust can still give horrible flat-spots.....as I found out many years ago on my XS1100...... Quote
Stu Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Good point there tango but with it having downpipes off a different bike we don't know how its running anyway I bet that quill end can is a standard size and bore for most suzuki's so one of the same length and bore won't matter For all we know the bike could have been set up for that system before and it might run spot on but it could easily be the other way I think the main is to get a end can on it get it running and on a dyno to really know for sure Quote
Tango Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Might be worth looking on eBay for a standard set of Downpipes.....then going for an end can that is recommended for that bike. Chances are that the jetting/fuel map have never been adjusted....so it may run better by returning it to standard.... Quote
Stu Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Standard would be best I recon Even with the standard pipes and an open end can you get a massive flat spot at 4 to 6 k after that they are great I know I have had two of them Quote

The guy I got it from didn't say it was not standard although he'd only had the bike 6months so probably the previous owner that did it. The measurements between the two top bolts is 50mm, the side bolts is 67mm and the inlet is 65mm (that is the width of the opening in the end of the end can, it then steps back about 5mm and in to 57mm).http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/iiisecondcreep/Bikey/DSC00310Medium.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/iiisecondcreep/Bikey/DSC00311Medium.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/iiisecondcreep/Bikey/DSC00313Medium.jpgHopefully I have measured these right! Stu Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Yeah that's spot on where it steps back a gasket sits in there I have posted on another forum to get the measurements as I don't have access to my bike at the min Quote

peejay1977 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 If its a 4 bolt then it's possible it's an early K series exhaust as think these bolt "sort of" straight on. It's probably from a K1/2/3 600 but plenty will fit. Quote
megawatt Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I can make any silencer fit just about any linkpipe by making an adapter. I cut the 3 bolt fitting off my linkpipe and make silencers to clamp onto the linkpipe, a la slip on. To go back to standard fitting I made a slip on adapter and welded it to the 3 bolt fitting. If you have a straight through silencer, I can make a copy of it or fit a bigger or smaller baffle. If too loud or quiet , the noise can be adjusted to suit. The length of the silencer can be adjusted, but it may affect power and fuelling, but not always. I tend to use wrap around straps that will clamp anywhere along the silencer and bolt to the original fitting. Your choice Gayle??? Quote
