Loving my new ER6F(KAW) however totalling taken aback by the amount of buffetting you take when riding on the motorway.

An tips on reducing this buffeting - Could it be helmet related as it feels as though on occassion my helmet is going to be pulled off my head!! My helmet too big ? (Ahem...apologies for this poorly worded chosen question)

Note, I am not doing any crazy speeds, proabaly about 80 tops.

Any advice welcome.

I see your problem, it is one many people make a year, possibly one of the most common mistakes bikers make.

Taking a motorbike on a motorway. This is a no-no. Get off the motorway and take the back roads, you are wasting the freedom of being on two wheels!

As for the buffeting problem, its normal and car be a pain, especially on windy days. Try ducking behind the screen or getting a double bubble screen

Sadly when you ride a bike with a small screen or no screen it's something that happens on dual carriageways/motorways and you can't do much about it except keep off them unless unavoidable! I have a helmet which is quite tight fitting ( ) and if I go beyond certain speeds it still gets buffeted. I've tried putting my head in all kinds of positions (I have a small screen) but it makes no difference!

i know the feeling of having your helmet feel its being lifted off...

A test I learnt to check if a helmet fits well is... put it on as normal, strap it up and then try lifting it off from the back... if it doesn't come off happy days...

with regard to stop that its being blown off feeling, dip your chin slightly closer to your neck, like you might do to help prevent a cap being blown off.

otherwise see it as a gym exercise for your neck

I quite like riding on the motorway especially if its busy, get to do a bit of filtering. If you don't like the buffeting don't ride on them.

I can't say i've really noticed it other than when passing lorries, at which point i grip more with my legs and loosen my grip with my hands.

I found investing in some windproof clothing helps take some of that feeling away. Aldi do cheap stuff that works, Knox do better stuff as it covers more of the body.

A screen may help with the feeling your helmet is coming off. It depends on you and your bike. I got a touring screen for my bike, but that put all the wind blast onto my head and gave me a sore neck. I wasted £50 as I was better off taking more of the blast on my chest with the standard screen.

I've heard more than one person say the exact same thing... it seems screens sometimes are more cosmetic than anything else

Is your screen adjustable? Try setting it in its lowest position, so the air hits you in the chest rather than being aimed directly at your helmet. That's what I do on my bike, it's much quieter and more comfortable that way.

(Downside: many splattered bugs on my jacket!)

Get a new helmet, made a huge difference to me once I got a Shoei compared to my cheapo one that felt like it was going to fly off over about 50 mph

Bought new helmet - What a difference. The old helmet clearly was the wrong size and was trying to pull my head off over 60 mph.

Thanks for all the tips/advice.
