crowther7689 Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 OK so my vfr has a very quiet exhaust fitted, by the previous owner, so it wouldn't annoy his neighbours.I'm after something louder (I was hit by someone recently, who couldn't see me, maybe he would have heard me), but road legal.I'm confused by what I need, there seem to be vfr specific cans with link pipes, vfr cans with no link pipes, and universal stuff as well. Most of the research I've done has just been referring people to specific brands websites, but I need to do this on the cheap, ie ebay. So, what will fit my vfr (vfr800 98)? Do I need to find out the diameter, and will universals fit onto the hanger?Maybe theres a budget, simple, road legal exhaust out there, but I don't know what to search for.Budget ~150Thanks! Quote
Colin the Bear Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Drill some holes in the end plate. 6mm to 10mm. Cheap and effective. A budget exhaust isn't a good idea. Might need replacing a couple of years down the line due to rust. You're not going to get much for £150 maybe an end can. Theres a lot of pipework on a V4. Quote

Well I'll be going 2nd hand, and will an end can not improve the sound? I want to keep it legal, so not sure about drilling holes.edithttp://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo.aspx ... otad-VenomLike this one, I selected my bike from a drop down list, and it says this will fit, but is it vfr specific, or universal? Its easy to search from websites, but not from ebay. Quote
bex Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 get the baffles taken out, or drill holes like said, if you want to stick well n truelly by the book i would keep saving and get a decent can, Quote
Colin the Bear Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Over budget. Innit? http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z28/Colin_the_bear/broke.gif Quote
Tango Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Over budget. Innit? http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z28/Colin_the_bear/broke.gifOP did say ~150......so £20 over that may be doable. Not a bad price I thought for a stainless can with the link pipe and fittings and gaskets? Quote

NearOn Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Heard good things about both of the below,http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SS70-Oval-Stainless-Steel-Exhaust-Silencer-Muffler-Honda-VFR800F-98-01-/280863364600?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item4164c2d5f8#ht_3364wt_1185and this onehttp://www.pipewerx.com/pipewerx_bikes/products/pipe-werx-sl-gp3/honda/vfr-800-97-02/honda-vfr-800-97-02-stainless-steel-round-gp3-race-exhaust.html Quote
Rebel Rach Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Shorter doesn't always mean louder in my limited experience. My r6 came with a stubby gytr can on it and it sounded very quiet. I went for the big bore gp replica and that sounds much better. Paul from a16 is very helpful if you give him a call I'm sure he'll be able to offer some advice. Quote
bigsisterbiker Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 don't know about the a16's, but i've got a pipewerx on the bike i've just bought. it looks great and sounds fantastic. the guy i bought it off said he thought it was a bit too loud even with the baffles in.with them out it's a proper window-rattler Quote
