mealexme Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Am I right in thinking that they go between the headers/downpipes and the engine? Because when I took my old headers off, there werent any there so I have installed the new ones I got for free with the new headers. Are they needed? Because they are a pita to put in because the gasket points slightly down, so when you put them in they just fall out again, but you need to put 4 in and use both hands to get the headers on :/ Quote
megawatt Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 You do need them. Hold in with a blob of silicone or exhaust paste . Quote
Uncle Meat Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 We used to use 'Gun gum' when I was a youngster. Holds them in place nicely and stops any blowing. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 and are you sure there was no old ones in there as they can be well compressed and look like part of the cylinder head Quote
pointblank0 Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 and are you sure there was no old ones in there as they can be well compressed and look like part of the cylinder head There will have been old ones in, and as said above, they compress so much that they look like the cylinder head. A small screw driver prying it will loosen it and then you'll see it. If you don't take them out, you won't get a proper seal.As for keeping them in, I smear them in grease and stick them in. The grease burns off later. Quote
mealexme Posted August 27, 2012 Author Posted August 27, 2012 i will have another look but I'm sure there weren't any. thanks for the tips. I have gun gum in the garage Quote
