Chimera101 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Hi folks.Right I'm not really sure what the issue is with my bike (which is why im here). On my way home yesterday and also to work this morning there was clunking feeling coming through my footrests. It felt as though something was striking the base of my bike with a steady rythm however it didn't last long either time. I have inspected the underside of my bike to see if there was any impact and cant see any marks so I figure it's internal.I have been told that I need new sprockets and they are ordered. Could this cause the clunking if it was slipping? or does anyone have any other ideas what it might be?I'll be happy to try and give more detail if requiredand cheers in aqdvance for any ideas or advice. Joeman Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Could be the chain, if you've ordered new sprockets, you may as well order a new chain too Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Worn Sprockets (and the chain will need replacing at the same time as you replace these!) can cause that kind of noise/vibration.So can worn big ends - worn gears - wheel bearings - etc.Advice - swap out your sprockets and chain and, with a bit of luck, problem solved!if not...... Chimera101 Posted November 2, 2012 Author Posted November 2, 2012 cool, I think it was a chain and sprocket set I ordered so hopefully that'll sort it out.cheers for the info Quote
Matt Strange Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 almost definitely chain/spocket related. I expect you've got a sticky link somewhere Quote
pointblank0 Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 almost definitely chain/spocket related. I expect you've got a sticky link somewhere I agree. That is a pretty reliable indication with the slapping underneath, and vibrating through the foot pegs. You will have probably noticed that it disappears when you get some speed up and are at a steady speed. The chain steadies out when it's going round fast. Quote
Chimera101 Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 Hi folks, just thought I'd put a wee update as to the state of my bike.I finally managed to get the right chain and sprocket set (my bad for not paying attention to what I ordered) and got them fitted along with a new oil filter and a service. (I figured I'd just get it all done at the same time.) My bike is now purring like a lion and rides nice and smooth...when I can dodge the pot holes that is Cheers to everyone for the advice. Quote
