  1. Hi folks, just thought I'd put a wee update as to the state of my bike. I finally managed to get the right chain and sprocket set (my bad for not paying attention to what I ordered) and got them fitted along with a new oil filter and a service. (I figured I'd just get it all done at the same time.) My bike is now purring like a lion and rides nice and smooth...when I can dodge the pot holes that is Cheers to everyone for the advice.
  2. cool, I think it was a chain and sprocket set I ordered so hopefully that'll sort it out. cheers for the info
  3. Hi folks. Right I'm not really sure what the issue is with my bike (which is why im here). On my way home yesterday and also to work this morning there was clunking feeling coming through my footrests. It felt as though something was striking the base of my bike with a steady rythm however it didn't last long either time. I have inspected the underside of my bike to see if there was any impact and cant see any marks so I figure it's internal. I have been told that I need new sprockets and they are ordered. Could this cause the clunking if it was slipping? or does anyone have any other ideas what it might be? I'll be happy to try and give more detail if required and cheers in aqdvance for any ideas or advice.
  4. Hi folks, unfortunately I canny go I'm gona have to get a new back tyre and valve thanks to a big screw that decided it really liked my tyre. so thats most of the money that was gona get me there spent. Bit bummed about it, was looking forward to meeting some fellow bike types. But hey can't wil them all. Sorry folks.
  5. Ha, it's in Glasgow thats not gona happen. After a bit of rummaging it would appear that it is indeed a restriction for dangerous goods. Cheers everyone .
  6. Hi folks, Was riding through the clyde tunnel earlier and I spotted a newish looking road sign that I have never seen before. It was a white square with a black border and the letter D on it. I've had a look at the signs in the highway code but cant find any reference to letters, only that the white rectangle is an information sign. so...any clues as to what it might mean?

  8. The bag sounds like a walking bag to me which means it wont be CE rated. the plastic sheet will probably be 0.5 -1mm thick and will supply little to no protection, the metal bars are intended to support and distribute the weight for walking and would probably do more damage than good in the event of an off. Personally I'd look at getting a decent back plate and an alternative backpack (probably one designed for biking), or get a bag designed with back protection in mind. I think HG do one and ther are probably others. It probably wont be particularly cheap, but consider it against the potential of a busted back.
  9. I have my ticket for the 19th, looking forward to it only been to the one in Scotland so far so hopefully it should be good.
  10. I'm intending on popping down, prolly at the start of hte event, as it fits in better with my work. Missed the show in Scotland due to being busted up
  11. I have no idea...it might be, but im not putting it in my gloves
  12. I have a pair of waterproof trousers much like those posted by throttled, keep them in my locker at work and have a 2 piece Frank Thomas waterproof set, removed the thermal liner from th FT trousers and just wear them over my jeans. Use HG goretex boots and can ride all day in shitty Glasgow weather and still be dry at the end. I just bought it all during the sales one bit at a time. In general I look at the weather before my commute, if it looks like it's gona be shitty, I figure it will be and dress accordingly, i'd rather be a bit too hot than soaked and cold.
  13. pop an odor eater ball in each glove and leave overnight.
  14. Awsome, sounds like what I need so I'll have a look for that tonite. thanks
  15. Hi again, I recieved the parts for my exhaust a few days ago, and managed to remove the downpiped lastnite just before i't got too dark to do further work. I ordered a gasket for the link between the downpipes and the link pipe but discovered that ther is no way any gasket is gona fit in there. There is almost no gap between them, so I reckon im gona have to use an exhaust sealant. Any suggestions as to what type I should use or should avoid? thanks
  16. I'll have to be vague just now as I'm working on thedescription I was given. It's a tubeless tyre and from what I understood from the description one side has came off the outside rim. I'll see if I can get any further info. Sorry it's so vague.
  17. Hi, A colleague in work recently got a small 125 scooter, but the back tyre has came off the wheel rim (I don't know how) How difficult would it be to put this back on? Canit be done with some tyre irons and a bit of effort or will it have to go into a shop? I have no Idead what make of scooter it is sorry.
  18. Cheers for the advice, I'll start putting a little spray onto the bolts over the next few days. I ordered the parts but it's up to 28days for delivery so I have abit of time to work at it. thanks again
  19. Awsome I will have a look when I get home and see whats what, Glad I dont have to remove tank or drain oil as I just changed the oil yesterday. Thanks for the info.
  20. Good point I should have really said what bike it is. Its a K5 650 Bandit. No fairing so thats a bit of hassle I wont have, dunno about the radiator tho might have to remove it.
  21. Hi all, I have a few (probably dumb) questions about replacing downpipes. Firstly are there any specialised tools I'll need? and will I need to remove the tank and drain the fuel and oil before hand? I do have a haynes book somewhere, but I'm at work and busy stressing out about it. Any info would be appreciated. Cheers
  22. Right I don't know much about batteries but here's what I think any how. If you can test the output of the battery to see what sort of charge it's supplying and also to see if it is definitely the battery and not any other issue causing the bike to cut out. As far as I'm lead to believe the bike engine should really be doing all the work after the bike is started and should help to maintain the charge of the battery. If you can drain the battery to as close to zero as you can before recharging it, as this sometimes helps the battery retain its new charge (no idea why). Obviously I don't know what charger you have but check that 8 hours is enough or that the light has gone green or however it shows fully charged. If it's still cutting out, I'd get a new battery. If it cuts out after that they you have a fault somewhere in the wiring I guess Probably not much help but it's all I got. Good Luck
  23. my current bike thankfully has a clock but heres what I did on my previous bike, bought a cheap digital watch (water resistant is preferable). Removed the straps and found a suitable location on my bike for it. then stuck it down with a bit of velcro(<- is that spelled right?) its not pretty or super secure but it worked. as for proper bike specific clocks I have no idea sorry.
  24. I might be gettin the wrong idea here but I dont think you need anything to remove the visor (or atleast you dont on the viper gt one) but if its the pods on the side that cover the mechanism then the arai website suggest a magnum icecream stick. I suppose a bonous is that you get to eat it first
  25. Ok, I checked the sprockets and also cleaned out a load of muck from under the cover. sprockest are not loose so thats a good thing. It does seem to smooth out a bit with higher revs. so i'll have to give her a wee run and see if things dont just settle down a bit. failing that I'll just cover her up and wait till i can afford to have a garage look at her. thanks everyone.
