priest Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 just noticed this morning a problem with shifting, specifically from 2 to 3, but also from 3 to 4, 1 to 2 goes fine. so what happens is i start on the first gear ok, gear up to the second without issues. At this point the shifter gets stuck in its upper / lower point (i have heel-toe control) so i cannot switch to the third gear, but i can go back to N and 1 ok. Revving the engine helps and in a while the shifter returns in its middle position. Noone has touched the bike, so i am doing some research over the internet what might it be. I have not cleaned the bike for a while so i am thinking if some dirt/sand is preventing the shifter to return to its middle position. Anyone faced similar issues? Quote
megawatt Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Sounds like crud stuck at a gearshift pivot point mate? Quote
Stu Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 As above it could be the road salt causing it to corrode get some oil on it to keep it moving freely Quote
Tango Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Has the bike had an oil change recently......what's the oil level looking like?..... Quote
mealexme Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 im no mechanic but I would change the oil, spray wd-40 in the joints (bikes, not yours) and just have a general look at it to see if there is any road crud trapped anywhere it shouldn't be. Quote
priest Posted December 19, 2012 Author Posted December 19, 2012 no oil change and the level is ok. i cleaned it a bit (without any oil or something yet) and it is now a bit better. so i think think this is it cheers Quote
Colin the Bear Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 A dirty bike is a poorly maintained bike and a breakdown waiting to happen. Make cleaning and lubing part of your routine. It may save your life. Quote
